Purchasing for speculation is ridiculous especially these days....Even more ridiculous is purchasing out of "fear" that the item may sell out...All marketing ploys and foolishness.......The days of profits on e-bay by horders and speculators are almost gone...Most folks are tired of these silly games......buy it because you like it..... because you will be stuck with it for quite a while....these are toys not investments

Yes Brad, At ease....Sermon over....Dismissed{sm4}

Just when you thought it was safe to buy again - The Speculator rises from the depths to grab a Tilley from the water's edge and swallows it whole. It will be 3 years before it resurfaces - and at triple the price. The day of the collector is over. The Day of the Speculator has returned. {sm5}{sm2}{eek3}

I totally agree... I was a bidder on eBay for a few very hard to find pieces that were produced in the early 1990's... the LAH berlin facade, the Roman Arc of Triumph and the Edinburgh castle facade, Goering's blue staff car and the Afrika Korps sdfz 222.

They've cost me a fortune. In return, I gained my childhood memory, pieces that I dreamed of when I did window shopping at K&C's retail shop in Hong Kong.

Unfortunately, I don't believe there are as many die hard collectors like me out there, willing to spend so much money on toys (which also includes keeping Andy's wallet fat by buying the new items at the same time). Furthermore, only the 1990's and 1980's hard to find items are still selling for crazy prices... most post 2000 retired productions are not too hard to find.

Maybe wait for a decade to pass, and the 2000's items will sell for a higher price. Get real dudes!

As I have said many times, any given day. I just sold a Raupen Schlepper original for in the 400s plus express mail to Greece, I believe that is a post 2000 item. That is a recent release. As has been said, it is a lottery. If you are happy to sell for the price you receive who cares? I have never sold a piece at a true loss, at the worst I sold for price I paid. Now time value of money, I probably lost on those, but who cares???? It s a hobby, if you make money, good for you, that's ok too.
