I want to add a K&C Spitfire to my RAF collection and I was hoping to gain some insight from the group as to which of the two most recently released is superior in design and craftsmanship, whether the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.1 (RAF016) or the Spitfire II (RAF017). I've never seen them both in person to be able to make a comparison, but I'm guessing that Spitfire II (RAF017) may be the better of the two simply because it was released 6 months after Supermarine Spitfire Mk.1 (RAF016), allowing K&C to make improvements in design and craftsmanship over that time period, brief as it may be. Each of the two has an interesting back story, but I'd rather make my decision based on ascetics. So, if you have any insight that can help inform my purchase decision, please let me know. Thanks.

I just got the RAF016 Spitfire the other day and am well pleased with it. Nice detail on it. If you get the RAF017 as flew by the Yank pilot there were much less of them produced, somewhere around 200 or 250. I forgot the exact number. RAF016 there were 750 of them made. Your choice....flip a coin !!! {sm3}

I have both and they are beautiful planes^&cool
Just a matter of choice:wink2:

Both version are terrific in my view. I have the first version and for me its the best one, its the black and yellow prop on such a famous aircraft from an equally famous Battle , that gives it the legendary look. I do like the other one as well and its great the US Pilots get their tribute with this one.

They are both great, personal choice really. I have the first release because its the classic so its my favourite. :smile2:

both very nice

Well SGT Rock did u pull the trigger yet??
Which one??
Maple Leaf

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but based on the comments, it's going to get pulled on Spitfire II (RAF017). If both models are equals in terms of craftsmanship, PancerAce made the point that there were only 250 made of RAF017, so while I don't make purchase decisions based on rarity and corresponding value, I will in this instance. As well, though I said I was neutral on the backstory that comes with each version, I like the tribute that RAF017 pays to the U.S. pilots, as Rob points out. So, by this time next week, my RAF pilots will have something to jockey around the apartment while I'm away at work. :)

How about getting both? Both are just as good ;)

Hi Raymond,

Thanks, would have gotten 4 if K & C came out with 4 variations, but thought they did a very good job on the spitfires. Am now looking forward to see the typhoons :)

The P-51 is very nice Rob and Hope Andy make a RAF version next . I do think the earlier planes are better as they don't have the black screw showing so much but saying that the new me 109 look very nice

Still want a true brit version of the most famous and iconic aircraft of WWII

Committees are nice . . . but remember that an elephant is a mouse designed by a committee! The only solution that works for me is to buy the one that's most appealing to you!
