The death of Wolfe (1 Viewer)

Those J Jenkins figures are great, are they not? Wish he would do some Napoleonics or ACW

I think the paintjobs are amazing looking. The style is a little more 'heroic scale' than I like for a figure as large as 54mm. It is a popular style in 28mm because of the visual appeal of the raised detail so in 54mm it likely paints up even better so I can understand why the figures look so good.

Folks who really like this style may want to take a look at Front Rank or Sash & Saber- FR is mostly 28mm but are starting some 40mm stuff in a similar style, S&S is 40mm. 28mm is good for large scale diaramas. I was thinking of getting a 40mm drummer since for 54mm he would be 4 foot 6 and roughly 'boy' sized.

Stunning is the word. I will preorder my set now.

It would be great if John did some other eras.

But what about a different time period other than the Napoleonic or AWI or ACW, any thoughts?

Do not get me wrong these are the period I collect, but all the big boys have flooded these eras.

John seems to be into early Chinese and Japanese.

What about these :
- Samurai
- Early Chinese (as per John's 28mm figures Qui so on)
- Mongol Horde (Khan)
- Boer War
- Jacobite Rebellions
- WW1 Australian Infantry & Light Horse (hey had to run that one up the flag pole being an Aussie)

Anyone else.

You know the great thing about this whole range of J Jenkins is its a period of history that doesnt get that much coverage - so you buy these figures and go and read up on the time period and enjoy the figures even more.

The French and Indian War also brings the American, French, Canadian and English (just to name a few...certainly more) closer together. It truely has an interesting international appeal.

His latest work does have that more realistic pose - than the part traditional Toy poses of the Braddock series - dont you think?

Thanks Carlos for having imported the photo.

I was working on my notebook yesterday and I do not have the software (like on my pc) to reduce it.

Thanks again.

Amitiés,
Pierre

You're welcome Pierre.

It's very difficult for me to resist buying John Jenkins. It's the wrong era for me but what beautiful work. I had a chance to buy BM-01 and 02 at the West Coaster Show a couple of weeks ago at retail. I usually try to stick with collecting what I like WWII and resist the temptation to speculate.

How did Wolfe die? Was he shot like Nelson? Apparently he was quite ill from Tuberculosis during the whole campaign.
Is this true

"As he advanced with the grenadiers a musket ball slammed into his right wrist. Wolfe wrapped the wound and pressed on. The enemy sighted on him again, and this time he took a ball in the stomach and another in the breast... Lt Browne of the grenadiers, Mr Henderson (a volunteer), and an unknown officer of artillery lifted him carefully and carried him to the rear" Empires at War, Fowler, p 210

After his death many of the famous people commissioned a picture of them all standing at Wolfe's side as he died- even though most of them were in Britain at the time.

I remember that picture - it is great! I hope someone can find it and post it on here.

Spoke with John yesterday; for May and June, he has about another 8 or so sets planned, mostly French. He has no plans at this time to expand beyond F & I, he really wants to cover the period from head to toe, which I think is a terrific idea.

I had his sets at a wargaming show I attended this weekend and as much as the toy soldier crowd loves his work, the wargamers flipped over the figures, as one pointed out, he has never seen the "Foundry paint style" on 54mm figures before.

Wargames Foundry is perhaps the most famous wargaming company on the planet, owned by the Perry Brothers and their figures are stunning, they commission some pretty heavy duty figure painters out of the Uk to paint up their figures in a style that has come to be known as the Foundry style, just stunning work.........................

George

Did he give you any idea of what type of French Figures??

Ron (Woof Woof)

Expect no less than four sets of British in May, 47th foot, or "Wolfe's Own" and three sets of French Regulars in June. Speaking of the French, FM 02 is now sold out at JJ HK, with only dealers holding stock (not I as I am sold out as of noon today)...............

I noticed one of the soldiers in the Wolfe set had green cuffs. This would make him part of what regiment? Just asking in case somebody knows before I try to look it up. Thanks Greg
