Every collectors worst nightmare.. (1 Viewer)

Yeah, the cost of glass has shot through the roof alright! Im pretty sure my large cabinet (which is similar to Brett's cabinets that i mentioned) cost me $800 when i purchased it several years ago. The cost now is over $1,200 and probably will get even dearer so i better not delay to much longer in buying one!

Tom

Excuse this awful pun - but it is Sunady afternoon and I am at my desk marking University assignments (a second job - all of my first semester's pay I blew on toy soldiers and a paint job for my MG) and I have no option other than to observe that the cost of glass does not reflect well on Australian industry.

Yeah, im gunna have to tone down my TS addiction (or go into TS rehab) otherwise i'll have to get a second job!

Regarding the MG paint job, im assuming that's a car and not a machine gun...^&grin

As for glass reflecting well on Aust industry, isn't a lot of it made in China??

Yes - 1967 MGB - British Racing green

The killer with this hobby is that no one piece is beyond our reach - the Coldstream Guard which I have ordered are 32 dollars a figure, but I want eight and one's on a horse!

Hi Guys,

Been a bit busy and only just catching up here.

For the ones by my shop door/window the place to look is :

http://www.shopsupplies.com.au/shop/category/showcases-glass-displays-showcases

This place was recommended to me by Howard. He has some and I got 4 from them. H1800 x D450 x W900. Looks like the $649.95 one the right side of second row of cabinets at this link. Come flat packed and you have to set them up yourself{sm2}. I have seen assembled in Absoe at amost double that price. Shipping cost was very reasonable but would not like to think what it might be to Darwin.

They did have a larger size of which Howard got one of but did not recommend to me.

The larger ones at back of shop are from another place near Nudgee which I would have to look up. H1800 x D600 x W1200 $1200 delivered assembled. Same ones as used in Aldi for DVD's etc. They do have a branch in Melbourne.

Have priced a lot of cabinets over the years and thought both these places were good value.

A lot of towns/cities should have a place like Absoe which sells 2nd hand (and new) office/shop furniture and display cabinets and they should be first place to look. Google Glass cabinets and place where you are.

Hope that helps.

Regards
Brett

Thanks Brett, ive had a look and they are certainly very well priced. The $649.95 cabinet you are referring to is still a little different to mine. My cabinet has 5 shelves while there's has 4. Still a good price tho. I am actually interested in the 1816mm (H) x 1213mm (W) x 510mm (D) priced cabinet at $699.95 on special! Even tho im not ready to buy one yet, i might sling them an email and find out how much it will cost to ship one to me. Hopefully i won't fall off my chair once i find out the shipping cost! {eek3}

Having looked at cabinets a bit, those prices are very reasonable. I may well do the mid year purchase. I need an extra shelf now that I have started the Crimean figures!

Tom,
Yes shelves important.

For ones by the door (Shopsupplies) the shelves are at a fixed level and can not be adjusted. The bottom section is supposed to be higher but I turned it upside down (if that makes sense) so the higher shelf was on the top and this is where the buildings are.

For the larger one I told them height I wanted and they did that when they put them together. They are adjustable and could add more levels if needed.

1967 MGB - British Racing Green - Nice!!!!!!!! My old man has a 1974 Triumph Stag and im pretty sure it's painted in British Racing Green.

It's certainly expensive building up an army and i wish i had more funds to buy everything i want, but then i do appreciate what i have got and enjoy getting that next new vehicle, tank or figure/figures!

When it comes back I will post a pic in the chat lounge. I'm not a car person normally but it was my first car and have become quite attached to it. It gave my wife and I time to get to know each other as we waited for tow trucks and road assist!

a good source for second hand cabinets is on line classifieds , in Canada it is Kijiji, In Australia , I think it is Gumtree ?

Was passing a pet shop in a Westfield centre today and they had a great "reptile" glass case for $339. Very good size for a decent diorama with plenty of storage space underneath. Check out pet shops and aquariums as the fish tank style are very good value.
