hey fellas:

Everytime I stop in Stan's shop in Gettysburg I look at this Frontline series and just enjoy it. It is such an interesting, vibrant and colorful series. I have considered buying some of these sets but am unsure how I want to display it. Most of the sets seem to be focused on people eating or drinking- scenes that one might find in a particular pub or bar- not really something you would see outside. So I was wondering, how some of the collectors display this collection.

Stan has his setup where all the tables are outside- as if it was a nice sunny day on Boston and the innkeeper decided to move the tables and ales outside- it does work.

Just would like to hear some other ideas too.

Thanks
CC

It's interesting that you brought up the topic of the use of figures inside. I have wanting to create a diorama of a colonial trading post, inspired by the painting from Robert Griffing. I am settling in on a cut-away of the room with the room larger than most of the buildings I build for "outside use." I am hoping others share their views on your question.

I like the Colonial Classics, too, Chris. I have a couple of individual pieces. They fit very well with the old Georgian figures from Phoenix, from which they were derived. They fill a great niche, because apart from those old Phoenix figures, I can't recall any other series depicting civilians in the 18th century.

@Steve--I like your idea. I have a couple of interior displays in the works, from simple 3-sided boxes, like Phoenix used to sell, to a full 360 model of a Gasthaus in Central Europe circa 1756, from the cellar to the attic, and with some exterior space, too. It'll be mounted on a turntable, and it will give me some way to display my Staddens, Rose, Imrie-Risleys, etc, other than just standing on shelves.

Prost!

Brad,

The turntable would be great. Please post pictures when you're ready.

Nice little conversation we have here that is very big on ideas. :eek:

Next time I go to Stan's I can snap some pics of his figures on display. It is really a great series. I have taken a hard look again and again at the girl running with the geese because she could be used for other scenes I have- non-Roman of course. {sm4}

Please do, Chris! I'd like to see his display.

Here's a link to the Colonial Classics catalog page at Frontline's website:

They have some items in their Buildings catalog, too, that make good backdrops for the range:

The Murphys at Hobby Bunker have some good foam buildings, too, that fit in well with the Colonial Classics. I've seen them up close at the shows.

For me, I use luan plywood scraps to build.

Prost!
