Yes - thanks for the reminder about that "Vinkhuijzen Collection" in NY. I first bumped into that marvelous collection a few years ago - which has over 32,000 pictures and illustrations of very early uniforms from many countries - though somewhat surprisingly - as you say - NOT from the USA. Old "Vink" was a Dutch Doctor with links to the military - who collected anything he could find on military uniforms - and destroyed many books in filling up his scrap-books.
They aren't neatly organised though - so it's a bit of a time consuming lottery to plough through the complete collection to look for something that may - or may not - turn up - but as you have shown - it occasionally throws up the odd surprise. I assume those pics of early British Marines are from circa 1745 - when ten Regiments of Corps of Marines were involved in America.
I must admit, I had clean forgotten about that collection as a possible source for Marines at Quebec in 1759, so thanks for the reminder - I must have another peek or two................jb
