Forthcoming Dispatches..and thanks. (1 Viewer)

Hey Ludwig,

I was indeed lucky enough to visit Custers battlefield many many years ago when I was much younger, something about a Battlefield that gets you everytime, I think its the silence. Its such a strong feeling on the Somme one feels you could almost reach out and touch it. I once stood in Sanctuary Wood outside Ypre and the silence and wind in the trees, I'm not saying I believe in ghosts but man it was spine tingling that day.{eek3}

Good luck with your older items, there is something very satisfying about hunting down that item you've been after isn't there.

Good luck with your dio, I look forward to seeing that. As for spray snow, I don't know of any off hand but there maybe some you can paint on but still remove after?? I'll have a look at my suppliers later and if anything jumps out at me I'll give you a shout.

As for Bulge items, we may be a touch early, I think they are normally in September/October dispatches.

All the best

Rob

I vote this the best post of the day for me anyway Rob.

Look many do not like my ideas or comments...I could really give a.....care less..I call it like I see it. I do not care if it is the President or the warehouse clerk.

I like your posts and dioramas and intellect on items of history, museums and battlefields....So do not let anyone get you down!! Including me....mate

I do not like your choice of Soccer teams however!! Oh by the way...mine won today goodbye Greece.....

It is outstanding that you have been to the Custer Battlefield. I agree on the feelings that you get.....you could literally here the whispers of those that were once there...at times I turned and really thought reenactments were riding up...but then there was no one. My wife really is in tune to this kind of thing but I never really gave it much credence...until recently. I think when you get older and at the age where everyone older then you has passed on...
you learn how to be quiet.....and listen...

Thank you for the link on the Snow Spray. Also what is the best way to do fire smoke like say coming up from a campfire?

I agree that it would be too much to hope for bulge items next month. But who knows. Only 7 more days until dispatches!!!

Your friend Ludwig.

P.S: I have a fiver on Italy...

Thank you Ludwig, very kind. Not too upset but maybe a break now and again does one the world of good, and I certainly feel refreshed and raring to wave that flag again:wink2:

As for Battlefield visits my friend I can hardly see enough! Been addicted to them since I was about thirteen, my wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully understanding wife is actually talking about us visiting both Gettysburg and Normandy again in 2014 for my 50th....I'm going to do so much cooking and cleaning between now and then:wink2:

Congrats on starting the Bulge, one of the very best ranges Andy makes in my view.^&cool

Cheers Ludwig

Rob

Thank you Rob. You are right, every now and then we all need a break from something like this. Heck, I am probably due handing you back the torch.

On the battlefields I am too a lover of them. I have been to so many in Europe and a few in America. I have dug relics at a few. For me the haunting of all had to be Verdun as the day I was there it was cold and foggy and you could just hear it... But always on my mind was the Custer Battlefield visit. I am not absolutely sure why. It is true that we Germans are suckers for the Cowboy and Indian thing....but it was so much more. It was a feeling like ....you were there. If you ever get a chance I would recommend it.

OK, now the cat is out of the bag! I am creating a winter WW2 diorama! It will be my finest one to date. Many of your and others work on this forum have motivated me with good ideas.

One question....do you know if you can get a spray can of like water base snow flocking? I am trying winterize some items but I want the option to wipe/ wash it off later!!

Back to the whole reason for your thread!! Bring on the BULGE!!!( and I do not mean my rather rotund mid-section here in my later years) I am hooked and I am buying items on the secondary market too that are LONG retired!!

Always great Rob,

Ludwig

Ah, Ludwig, this is where I hit the buffers I'm afraid:redface2: I've not yet created actual smoke, smoke damage I can do, but smoke itself....????? Sorry about that.

And a fiver on Italy....we shall see! ^&grin I'm hoping we avoid your team though I don't think the country can bare another England v Germany game. In our country during these encounters you have a choice. You can either sit through 90mins of unbearable tension and suspense in which the nation holds its breath OR go visit friends or relatives in a most relaxing drive as there are ABSOLUTELY NO CARS on the road!^&grin:wink2:

Rob

Glad to see you posting again Rob. I've made room and dusted out the stockade. All you need to do is send the guilty person/persons to me and we'll lock them up and throw away the key. ;)

As for the upcoming dispatches I'm really not sure what to expect, we're past D-Day and its too soon for Bulge or OMG so I'm thinking we're in for surprises or some non-WWII stuff. Truthfully I'm hoping for a quiet month with few retirements as my wallet still has indigestion over recent purchases of the U.S. LCVP and associated crew and the P-40. {sm2}

Thanks CFM, he's a great figure isn't he, I think he will be on duty in a great many dio's of mine in the coming years.

I envy you my friend, I've not yet got that Landing craft and have to put that right as soon as possible.

Rob

Rob,

I know it is too early to ask for a red tail P-51 Mustang with invasion markings with the recent release of the Dora, but please Andy make one sometime this year! I am the American version of Wayne and his Stuka! I plan to ask for the plane each time you post this thread, so put a good word in for me!

Thanks,

Alex

I though the Red tails were based in Italy witch means they would not have D-Day markings

Most kind Sir:salute::

I'm having trouble with this thread, Neil posted last and every time I click to read his post it takes me back a page???

Rob

I wonder if when Wayne wakes up in the morning, he is happier if it's a gray overcast day instead of sunny ^&grin

^&grin

He's only got to worry if he says to his good lady ' Darling , your hair is a beautiful shade of Dunkelgelb' !{eek3}

Thanks for your post Rob, I also posted on the Euro 2012 for you and Jazz!!

I am trying to figure a way to create a great smoke effect without having something actually smoking. I wanted to try dry ice as well for this as for a trench display but the little women said, "I do not think so". She is a little upset as the family room is trashed from last nights final festivities following the German win. The dining room table is taken up by diorama building. I have most of the base completed for my snow scene. It will be sometime this week that pics will bne posted.

Next, what is the best way to do water Rob. I am considering a landing assault after looking at these wonderful pictures!!

Thanks and again it is really good to have you back!!!!

Oh my....head^&confuse I think a hair of the dog is in ordnen!

Hey Ludwig, glad you had a good celebration, sounds fun!:wink2:

Now if you want smoke, can take a picture quickly (have your camera all set up) you could try the old Cigar trick of lighting one , blowing some smoke in and snapping away. If you are good at blending colour you could try using some cotton wool and painting it with blacks and greys etc.

As for water this is much easier. Firstly you could go to woodland scenics and use their products, heard good things about that. Or you could search online dio suppliers as there are other water effects available. For my beach scene I used bog standard tile grout that I shaped with a tile comb and an old toothbrush. I then gave it many washes of black, greens, blues etc to build up colour , finally I glossed it to hell and back to give it a real wet look. Hope some of this may help

Thanks for your comments Ludwig, its good to be back among my friends on here:smile2:
