Just a general comment regarding Ludwigs "rivett counting" and comments by Vladimir about accuracy of figures etc in relation to the scholar.

Based on my observations and comments here the Scholar could fit in with the following series :
LOJ
AE
MK
SOE
NE
AL
EA
AK

I am guessing the Scholar is going to be used with far more other figures than with LOJ. Same goes for others from the LOJ series. The LOJ camels can also be used with many series and they are very good sellers because of this.

He could just as easily have been put into the NE series and then would be correct. I am finding the civilians from the LOJ series are being used as add ins with other series and that is part of the interest in them.

People should try not to get fixated on minor details because a series has a particular name. For example K&C labels their LAH series Berlin 38 but clearly some are before and after that date. It is your collection to do with as you please.

Vladimir,
I think your method of counting is not a good method. So just my comments :

RAF 38 sets and US AF 10 sets strongly suggests to me RAF sells much better than US AF.

FOB is a series that has been mainly early war so since USA did not join until DEC 1941 no surprise not in it.

NA is a major series so of course there will be plenty of British in it. I note Ludwig is a big fan of this series.

EA - not too much North Africa action by the USA.

SOE seems to be 18 figures released in matt and gloss not 31. Again no USA action here.

BR covered below.

MG clearly a British series to represent Arnhem.

RTA - I note you count three figures towards the British here !! That would not be the view of non American collectors.

WWI in general not too much action by the USA and none in the desert.

You count the BR's but not the 10 AR's still available.

As a dealer the way I look at it is :

American Revolution - collectors of this series will usually buy both British and American.

Alamo - how can you have Alamo without the Mexicans ? The Mexicans are not much use to anybody but Alamo collectors so whilst not American they are clearly designed for American collectors.

The Real West - same as for the Alamo with the Indians as they are designed to go with the US cavalry. I consider the Indians as American figures.

The USN and USMC are very much a niche series clearly aimed at American collectors.

When you look at the American figures (ie in WWII) and specific series (Amer Rev, ACW, TRW, RTA, USMC, USN)
I don't think USA collectors have a shortage of choice. Plus we do know more are planned.

Just spent two great days in Brisbane where the main focus was on TS but boy did we have some fun also. I must also admit I haven't heard that my dad's bigger speech for many a year.

I agree with you that Germans outsell Americans, and that WW2 Americans outsell modern day Americans... but I ask you... if K&C really only makes what sells, then why *are* all the Civil War Confederates retired and none of the Union? I exclude the Confederate Generals that K&C still produces.

The confederates came out first before the union troops. They have been around longer and,retiring the ones listed makes way for new ACW sets I would assume

Lately, we seem to have many threads that seem to degenerate quite quickly. Why? This is a hobby but some view as a reason for hand to hand combat. On top of that we have an attack on Howard, a good friend. Now, we also have a "new"member with alleged broken English. This seems somewhat familiar.

Well this has been an interesting thread.

Anyway, Brett is right with respect to the AWI as I have both the British (BR) and the Colonial (AR).

However the AR is comprised of the French forces so I am not sure if I would count those in the American’s column or not.:rolleyes2: BUT … the British have the Indian series so do I still count those in the British or should they really be in the American column. ^&confuse They were here longer that the others you know!!!

For my taste, I like the British sets more that the Colonial sets; more colorful, better poses and stances and such. I think I have about 750 sets of BR as opposed to 590 of the AR sets.

My favorite AWI series is the Hessians series followed by the Highlanders and then the Fusiliers (old and new). Only then do I place the NY 1st (new) and then the Rhode Island Rgmt.

I am happy to hear from Howard's (EXCELLENT) report that new Americans are on the way so I might need to balance off the armies a bit.

With regards to Confederates, PanzerAce, Confederate cavalry were released after PA regiment which K&C still makes. Seems to demonstrate maybe K&C does not make correct decision every time.

Speaking of bad K&C decisions, did any American collectors purchase Bedford Fuel Bowser or Morris truck? I know British collectors did, but I do not know any Americans who did.

I need to get the answer to a question that has been puzzling me. You were at the Texas TS Show, then why didn't you have a one on one chat will Andy??? He cannot remember meeting you. As a big K&C collector, I would have thought you would have taken the time to introduce yourself and get the inside intel on these so called problems. Nothing better than getting an answer direct from the horse's mouth, as they say at the racetrack.
I am sure hundreds of collectors around the globe would have loved the opportunity you passed on to meet and talk to Andy face to face.

Howard, I missed Saturday and made it only late on Sunday. This was because one of my children living in the US had ....how should I say......failed miserably as a parent and at life. My grandchild whom is autistic from this daughter was taken by what they call CPS in the America. We me and my little woman, are still trying to regain custody of this child now through depositions etc etc etc ...which I do not completely understand as a German mostly speaking man.
I was not really in a mood to meet and greet....and ask questions about lumps of pewter and tin.

Perhaps you and those can find a great joke in this.

Although we as collectors may debate this point and that point back and forth and sometimes say things we don't intend, I would dare say that most of us are parents and know parenting is never easy; and I'm sure that no one who is a parent would find a joke or humor in what you and your wife and your children must be suffering, only compassion for what your family must be experiencing. This Forum helps us get away from our problems from time to time and for that I'm sure we are all thankful.

Could you enlighten me as to what the bad decisions were from K&C as to the two items you mentioned??? I know 11 US collectors who have both some on here and some from elsewhere. Because you know none does that somehow prove some point or other??

Thanks for that. I apologize to all for the brashness of late. The constant court dates and continuances has us up in arms. It is like these people at CPS do not want the child out of their system. It is some kind of a funds money thing. I started with a family last in life. But, you will find out being a Father never ends. I already raised one grand child. Looks like I will be doing it again and this time with a special needs child. I have no idea how to deal with this.
The forum and more the diorama building that it has brought my way has allowed me a release to keep from blowing it totally. However, that is no excuse to take it out on anyone. My bad as the kids say now. I will try and refrain from throwing this your way as they say.

I guess this means each time K&C does an American item the English and Aussie collectors should point out what a bad decision it is.

Appears to me the numbers of American figures given were to support a particular point of view. Not counting American Indians and American Revolutionary figures is strange when they are a major part of American history.
