Hi Guys,

Many thanks to our old friend “Poppo” for letting us all know that Prussian/ German Generals would never, ever eat out on the roadside without proper tables, tents, mess waiters and, I dare say, the Regimental Silver!

Well, blow me down with a feather-duster, if I did not chance upon a photo of an Erwin Rommel impersonator doing just that somewhere in France in the summer of 1940.

Would you not agree with me that the resemblance to the real Rommel is quite remarkable!!!

Best wishes and happy collecting,
Andy C.

Yes and not only did no German soldier ever eat outside, but in the whole of WW2 no German or Allied Soldier ever relieved himself in a public place. No its true! What is often over looked in this conflict is that just before War was declared the German engineers went ahead and built across Europe a whole chain of hundreds of immaculate gentleman's lavatories that were stocked with scented soap, hot towels, and soft music was piped into these lavatories to create a relaxing atmosphere. At Wars end Churchill ordered the RAF to bomb all these lavatories so as to destroy the hygenic reputation of the German army.

Was recently reading about Gettysburg. Apart from the hundreds of bodies lying around the town for weeks and months afterwards, one of the biggest evils was the sheer amount of human waste from thousands of men over three days that littered the fields and streets . This caused disease and plagues of flies that made residents lives a misery for months on end. Now THATS a place you wouldn't want to have stopped for a sandwhich at lunchtime!:wink2:

I have to say I,ve been a member of this board since the begining but that post about German generals not eating out doors I think was the most bizarre of all times. And Rob you are correct about those German installations in France. I just read an article in my monthly subscription to "Latrines Times" that in fact the Germans installed those luxurious Johhny on the Spots throughout France.
Sometimes Andy takes heat for responding but this time I don,t blame him firing back with both barrells!

Sounds like another one of those Bloodthirsty war criminal RAF raids that England never disclosed so as to paint themselves in a positive light {sm4}{sm4}
