Here's a couple of pictures of a Russian Imperial Navy Warship model by late grandfather made during the 1970s.

He served on this ship (name translates as "Brave") as a midshipmen during the Russian Civil War.

He made two ships and my cousin has the other.

It's about 2 metres long (length of a dinner table) and all made from scratch. One of my big tasks is to try and attempt to clean it and restore it to it's former glory (or pay someone to do it!).

Enjoy!

Very impressive Mick although it looks like you have it jammed up on top of a cupboard or something!

Beautiful model. Your grandfather is extremely talented. -- Al

Hi Mick,

I am very impressed with what I see! The model is quite impressive and it should be an excellent center piece to any collection. Good luck with the restoration and please keep us informed!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks guys!

Yeah - it's on top of a cupboard in my dad's garage at present due to a lack of room.

My intention is to fix it up and get a cousin of mine to build a display case for it.

My grandfather was a very talented man - he was also a very good portrait artist as well.

Wow! That is one fantastic model ship.^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool Your grandfather was extremely talented!:smile2:

Hello Mick;
Let me add my praises for your Grandfathers incredible work. What is it made from (i.e the type of wood) and fittings?

Gee, I wish I was able to help out with your restoration as model ship building is my second hobby. Not the plastic one (although I do enjoy then as a side line) but the wooden one. I have restored about 18 - 20 ships in my time. Funny some of the stories that you get told as to why the model was damaged.

The best on was told to me by the wife of the owner of the model. She wanted to spruce up the "upstairs" bath but didn't want to pay an experienced builder, plumber. She hired some local-yokel who didn’t know the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver.

Long story short he burst pipes, flooded the bathroom and the ceiling below fell on the model below.

She would have paid a professional about $1100 - $1200 dollars to do the bathroom work.
But to fix the “antique” model sailing ship cost her$1800. plus nearly getting divorced.

Beautiful model, Mick, your grandfather did some excellent work! I see some figures on deck; what scale works with the model, and do you have more to display with her?

Prost!

A display case will be very fitting for a great looking model :salute::

Thanks for your comments.

It's made from wood and plastic and I think the figures are roughly 1/32 scale.

It will eventually become the centre piece of my collection. My grandfather was only 16 or 17 when he served on the real ship and was even wounded in action leading a shore party against communist forces.

A really beautifull model warship....Compliments on your Grandfathers work, it really deserves a profesional restoration. and a custom made display case would really make it complete...I have a 75mm brass shell casing from the Russian Navy, dated 1900 and lots of Cryillic stuff on the base......Wonder if it"s from your ship???.

Steve

Thanks Steve - I just need to find someone in Brisbane, Australia who can do a good restoration job.

The display case is easy enough - my cousin can build me one as he is a cabinet maker.

As for the shell, the Imperial Navy had lots of warships around at the time. :)
