You use this attending shows as some type of statement of being a collector or, thats what it seems like to me. There are plenty of shows in the UK some I have been to some I have not. I have said this many times I have not attended any of the three london shows as I have a seriously ill wife to care for and, its to far to travel and too selfish to stay away for that long in my opinion.
Now make of that what you will

Rob
So that's how he afford all those camels {eek3}
Yes Mitch I am a collector too and have taken the time on many occasions to post pics of my collection.
For those who can make it to the bigger shows with K&C in attendance it is a nice incentive to receive these
Show / dinner figures for those who attend. I did not make it to Chicago, but at the same time I am not
Going to critisize who did go and what they do afterwards. The original intent of this thread was a collector
Feeling left out of getting his knight show figure. Since he is geographically too far away to get to Chicago
He has the K&C club option route to take. Too much complaining about those not attending shows feeling
Left out, but what about the sacrifices some make to attend one of these shows. ????
Costs for travel, lodging, possibly taking time off from work losing a day or two pay along with traveling
8 ,12 hours to get to these events. As far as I'm concerned special incentives are well earned by these
Collectors. If they trade and barter to acquire several exclusive pieces more luck to all.
One can collect and also sell at the same time.It has been a norm in any hobby for ages.
In these tough economic times there is nothing wrong with discussing costs or how much less disposable income
Many people have. Going to shows is well worth it and always a pleasant experience. That being said the further and
Longer one travels to these events the more expensive things get. No complaining just simple fact.
If collectors get show figures and sell them to help lighten the burden if they need or want to so be it.
This has a positive benefit as it makes the item available to others who could not attend the show.I hope the
Poster of this thread eventually gets what he is looking for. !
I don't go to Chicago because I might get a free figure (which is not actually free since we have to pay the dinner). I'm going to see and hang around with friends I rarely get to see like Louis, Shannon, Tom, Hans, Tim Tyler, Brian W (Warbuff26), Ed, Clive, Gary from St. Louis, George, Rick and Andy. Apologies to any I missed. I'm also hoping to find a few good items but if I don't, no biggie.
Yes, it's not cheap, what with airfare, rooms and purchases. Trust me, it's worth it, several times over. While I was there I ran into the actor Ruben Blades, to whom I've sold a few things on eBay. He said it's like going to Mecca.
If there was no figure or no dinner, I'd still be going. The figure is irrelevant.

Wayne,
That wasn't directed at you per se. I just wanted to give the members my thoughts about why I go.
Hopefully, you'll join our merry band next year! :smile2:
Brad
When I go to the shows I factor in train fare, breakfast in London (never cheap) a few drinks with the lads , few more drinks with the lads....you can't imagine how much they drink:wink2::wink2:, then late lunch with the guys etc. I make sure I save this up before the show because I sure don't like taking it from my show budget^&grin
Another ' out of budget ' expense that happens and seriously I'm not joking here is this . Its about 3.30pm and the show is starting to quieten down a bit, we are all in the bar and ' a little merry' by this time. Before you know it Simon is saying ' watch my bags will you' and off he goes to Thomas Gunn. Before I know it Andy (UkBod) has left his bags and heading off to Britains, then James who is without doubt the worst influence on me has parked his bags and heads to K&C UK....I see them all come back loaded with more stuff .....and yes...I'm a weak willed collector...and before I know it I've left my bags with them and I'm off back to K&C UK for ' just a couple more figures', swinging by TG Miniatures on the way back to the bar !{eek3} Honestly this happens EVERY SINGLE SHOW! This late in the day spending is NEVER BUDGETED FOR and I often have to sweet talk the missus on my arrival home:wink2:^&grin
They are such a nice bunch of guys who it is an absolute pleasure to get together with three times a year.....but they are baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad men!^&grin:wink2:
Rob
Hahahahaha. There's considerable truth in this though usually I'm just heading back to K&C to pick up my stuff. My weakest point is always when I first arrive like last time when I walked in saw the guys then saw the Desert Tiger on the Figarti stand! Clive gets me every time and my budget is blown immediately!
I think we are the worst influence on each other. Our collections so similar!
Does anyone know if K&C has ever made figures exclusive to a particular shop (besides the Crimean War from King & Country UK or Alamo related figures for Kings X)?

There was the Joan of Arc figure and a couple of French Foriegn Legion figures commissioned by Toy Soldier Paris.
