You use this attending shows as some type of statement of being a collector or, thats what it seems like to me. There are plenty of shows in the UK some I have been to some I have not. I have said this many times I have not attended any of the three london shows as I have a seriously ill wife to care for and, its to far to travel and too selfish to stay away for that long in my opinion.

Now make of that what you will
Mitch

Yes Mitch I am a collector too and have taken the time on many occasions to post pics of my collection.
For those who can make it to the bigger shows with K&C in attendance it is a nice incentive to receive these
Show / dinner figures for those who attend. I did not make it to Chicago, but at the same time I am not
Going to critisize who did go and what they do afterwards. The original intent of this thread was a collector
Feeling left out of getting his knight show figure. Since he is geographically too far away to get to Chicago
He has the K&C club option route to take. Too much complaining about those not attending shows feeling
Left out, but what about the sacrifices some make to attend one of these shows. ????
Costs for travel, lodging, possibly taking time off from work losing a day or two pay along with traveling
8 ,12 hours to get to these events. As far as I'm concerned special incentives are well earned by these
Collectors. If they trade and barter to acquire several exclusive pieces more luck to all.
One can collect and also sell at the same time.It has been a norm in any hobby for ages.

So that's how he afford all those camels {eek3}

Doesn't explain why his name and Mike Neville's are on the deeds to my house!{eek3}:wink2:

So Brad, reckon you'll be Chicago bound again next year, sounds like you loved every min of it mate:smile2:

The special Blue tent was available to dealers when the last release of MK's came out. Cant remember the item code but was PM something. A dealer received, free, one tent for each 5 complete sets of the new releases ordered in first couple of weeks. Since I only ordered 5 complete sets in my first order I received one tent. I do not know the total number made but it would not be many. Even bigger dealers than myself may only have received two.
Obviously what the dealer then does with them is up to each dealer. In my case it went free to my
biggest collector. The reason I have just popped into this thread is that another of my collectors has
seen this thread and just asked me about the tent also !

This has happened a few times in the past with other MK's about 4 years ago (MK(S) and about 18
months ago with a landing craft that did not get produced in the numbers intended.

In relation to the special figure I am a member of the K&C Club but as a dealer my normal order did not
count regarding the special figure. As a dealer and Club member I am limited to 2 of each Club figure
and had bought all already so I was not able to buy $250 worth of figures to get the special figure. So the special figure not available from dealers.

Blue tent should get a good price on Ebay due to its rarity but I know the collector who got mine wont
be selling his. The reason it will get a good price is because it is so rare. However do we really need
four tents in general production ?

I know these type of items can be irritating to those who miss out but I still support the idea of these
unique figures or items.

Buying $250 worth direct from K&C and getting a rare figure worth at least $40 is not a bad deal but
time is running out on that offer. One was listed at $149 starting price on Ebay but no idea what happened with that
one.

Hope that explains some of the background.

Regards
Brett

well, thats where we will always differ and, have to agree to disagree. I see things in terms of the way I can add to my collection and enhance it. I am not bothered whether I have a piece anyone else does not have I have said many times I am happy with my collection and, if I was to stop buying today I would be satisfied with my collection. Your primary motive in nearly all your posts seems to gyrate around cost increases in value and selling. I have little interest in any of that really. different people different views and values. All are entitled to their opinion and, what you consider complaining may be a legitimate concern and point to another.

I really don't see the likes of Howard who travelled from australia (probably the hardest in terms of these sacrifices you talk of) not going to the show or, having less of a time because there was no free or cheap show figure!! How many would stop going because these were stopped? I would bet not many. This collector made a valid point and, one which K&C has rightly tried to address.

Its all down to what you want from the hobby I guess
Mitch

In these tough economic times there is nothing wrong with discussing costs or how much less disposable income
Many people have. Going to shows is well worth it and always a pleasant experience. That being said the further and
Longer one travels to these events the more expensive things get. No complaining just simple fact.
If collectors get show figures and sell them to help lighten the burden if they need or want to so be it.
This has a positive benefit as it makes the item available to others who could not attend the show.I hope the
Poster of this thread eventually gets what he is looking for. !

When I go to the shows I factor in train fare, breakfast in London (never cheap) a few drinks with the lads , few more drinks with the lads....you can't imagine how much they drink:wink2::wink2:, then late lunch with the guys etc. I make sure I save this up before the show because I sure don't like taking it from my show budget^&grin

Another ' out of budget ' expense that happens and seriously I'm not joking here is this . Its about 3.30pm and the show is starting to quieten down a bit, we are all in the bar and ' a little merry' by this time. Before you know it Simon is saying ' watch my bags will you' and off he goes to Thomas Gunn. Before I know it Andy (UkBod) has left his bags and heading off to Britains, then James who is without doubt the worst influence on me has parked his bags and heads to K&C UK....I see them all come back loaded with more stuff .....and yes...I'm a weak willed collector...and before I know it I've left my bags with them and I'm off back to K&C UK for ' just a couple more figures', swinging by TG Miniatures on the way back to the bar !{eek3} Honestly this happens EVERY SINGLE SHOW! This late in the day spending is NEVER BUDGETED FOR and I often have to sweet talk the missus on my arrival home:wink2:^&grin

They are such a nice bunch of guys who it is an absolute pleasure to get together with three times a year.....but they are baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad men!^&grin:wink2:

Rob...

Its a pleasure listening to why you go to the shows and a breath of fresh air.

I don't go to Chicago because I might get a free figure (which is not actually free since we have to pay the dinner). I'm going to see and hang around with friends I rarely get to see like Louis, Shannon, Tom, Hans, Tim Tyler, Brian W (Warbuff26), Ed, Clive, Gary from St. Louis, George, Rick and Andy. Apologies to any I missed. I'm also hoping to find a few good items but if I don't, no biggie.

Yes, it's not cheap, what with airfare, rooms and purchases. Trust me, it's worth it, several times over. While I was there I ran into the actor Ruben Blades, to whom I've sold a few things on eBay. He said it's like going to Mecca.

If there was no figure or no dinner, I'd still be going. The figure is irrelevant.

Brad, I never said going to shows for one sole purpose. I drive 7 hours in my car one way to go to the Texas show.
A chance to chat with Andy, get with the other collectors, and seeing all of the great stuff laid out is the focus.
These shows are great fun and it is too bad not everyone attends them. this Chicago event I opted to use funds
That would have gone for going to buying new releases in the next month or two. Hopefully next year. !

Wayne,

That wasn't directed at you per se. I just wanted to give the members my thoughts about why I go.

Hopefully, you'll join our merry band next year! :smile2:

Hahahahaha. There's considerable truth in this though usually I'm just heading back to K&C to pick up my stuff. My weakest point is always when I first arrive like last time when I walked in saw the guys then saw the Desert Tiger on the Figarti stand! Clive gets me every time and my budget is blown immediately!

I think we are the worst influence on each other. Our collections so similar!

Yep, that was a record, you broke before Rob did. That was fun watching you crumble in the space of 20 seconds. :)
Fortunately, as a man with copious quantities of willpower and fortitude, I can stand back and provide an objective overview of the proceedings.

Does anyone know if K&C has ever made figures exclusive to a particular shop (besides the Crimean War from King & Country UK or Alamo related figures for Kings X)?

There was the Joan of Arc figure and a couple of French Foriegn Legion figures commissioned by Toy Soldier Paris.

If you'd come to the Show Wayne, you would have been able to buy these from Fred of Toy Soldiers France :wink2:

Thanks! I have heard and seen some of them over the years, but I was unsure if there were more out there.

Years ago I worked for an employer who distributed a raffle ticket every time you got a bad job. At the end of the week they were placed in a barrel and we had a 'lucky draw'. The 'winner' got a bottle of wine. As I was one of the youngest on staff I got more that my fair share of bad jobs so I won reasonably regularly. Then the bosses favourites complained at the unfairness of it. They did not get the bad jobs so they were unable to win the bottle. So everyone got one ticket to make it 'fair'. Needless to say, I continued to get more than my share of bad jobs, although in retrospect the fact that I was an opinionated bore may have contributed to the bad job ratio.

To demand that Andy be 'fair' and make the show figure available to everyone means, both in theory and practice, that there is no longer a show figure. One more little charming tradition can then disappear in the name of pretending that if we have enough rules life can be made fair.
