I was just looking on ebay and looked at some of the prices a certain seller on ebay charges and was wondering if anyone pays these inflated prices. Well they sure do. Some guy bought several of those Kings X Fords cavalry from this seller for $78 & $$81.
I checked KingsX website and you can buy them there for $45. How can anyone who can afford to spend that kind of money be so uninformed?

There's just a lot of people out there who don't know any better and there's always someone out there to try to take advantage of consumers' ignorance.

That, or some people just scroll thru eBay looking for "stuff" to buy. Youve seen the show Hoarders right?

Try putting the old & used & unwanted on Craigs list. You'd be amazed. For the right price a market exists for just about anything and everything. An used car guy once said to me "there's a butt for every seat". That "principle" can be broadly applied.

Some people buy on impulse. It's how the gum companies stay in business If you're willing to be patient, and have good marketing savvy, you'll eventually snare a buyer.

Nigerian scammers still make a living feeding on the gullible and naïve. I find that amazing. But surely I've overpaid myself for things and just not been aware. Did I get a good deal on the last house or car I bought? Like to think so. But, as always, caveat emptor.

Think about the stock market. When you sell a stock or whatever because it's either overpriced or never going to go up, whosever buying it has the exact opposite opinion. Never question the market, it knows more than us all!!

I fall into the uniformed category. I rely heavily on the trust and goodness of people. There's still a lot of good people out there. And its a good thing I've got about equal amounts of money and brains. If I had more money than brains, I'd be dangerous or at least a careless Ebay buyer.^&grin

I'm new to the hobby. In fact I now own a whopping 2 figures. I have made a point however of being an informed newbie. I've researched my pieces and paid a fair price. I should add however that I have experience in the collectibles market. My wife and I have owned our own English porcelain collectables company for 15 years now. So this is not all that far outside my experience range.

My advice for anyone new to any collectibles hobby is get as informed as you can before you start spending any serious money. The internet is a great tool for that. Look at EBay. Not what people are wanting for their pieces but what they actually sold for in the finished auctions. Look and see what they are selling for on online dealer websites and finally check out collector forums i.e. what I did when I found this forum. After I did those three steps and only then did I purchase my first two King and Country pieces (actually 1 and 1 on the way).

I think you have to be wary. How many items are sold as if they are unique and one of a kind in a listing with so much rubbish written that if you don't buy it your life won't somehow be the same? May be some decent people knocking around on e-bay and elsewhere but, I would imagine that for every one there is two who have the morals of a pig!!

People may make mistakes as well, we are human beings. I know I wasn't keen to all of the ways of purchasing figures up until I was in the hobby for a good 3 or 4 years or so. Heck, if I were to do a web search for toy soldiers and "TREEFROG TREASURES" came up, I wouldn't immediately associate a store with that name as a toy soldier dealer. It's a niche hobby so it can be tricky finding reputable dealers to use.

Could be a situation where the buyer lives overseas and the guy who sold it for $78 or whatever can ship cheaper than buying from retailer. Who knows, I dont' think we should judge people as crooks, stupid or naïve until we understand their circumstances.

There's also the buyer who doesn't have a credit-card or Paypal account. He'd be forced to look for vendors, perhaps high-priced, who accept checks and/or money orders. Then there's the "quality" vendor versus the "scary" type. Does he refuse returns or come unhinged when he's informed of a damaged or defective item? My blood-pressure doesn't respond well to the latter, BTW.

About half of everything that I buy comes from the same source. To be honest, I routinely pay *about* ten-percent more than I absolutely have to. However, the service and shipping are peerless. And, IF I'm unhappy with the state of an item that I receive, the part get's exchanged, absolutely free, no questions asked. That kind of relationship is worth a small premium, IMO.
