Ok, this one started out as a Napoleonic battle, but the more I looked at the terrain, I thought it would work better as a WWII diorama.

I hope I am right, we'll see what the members think........

American units approach a German strongpoint consisting of a church and farm complex while other units run into German airborne dug into hedgerows....

George, pretty sure that Russian unit wasn't present at this battl......oh, hang on, wrong thread {sm2}

Great set up! I can see it working with either Naps or WWII. I need to paint some more small scale guys up.

Cheers

At some point, I am going to do a diorama with Union troops fighting WWII Russians or Napoleonic French fighting Confederates and post it on that wargaming forum for ****s and giggles.........^&grin

Last few; I think I made the right choice. Plus, I could always pack this one up and leave the mat and roll out the napoleonics and start from scratch................

Thanks for the comments, nothing at all annoying about you.

Trust me on that one.

Hmmmmm....are you sure there was ivy growing along side the church like that George?^&grin^&grin^&grin just kidding!!!!!!!! love the dio, I really wish I had room/dollars for such a dio, looks fantastic!!!...Sammy

George's basement wonderland again! I love it mate and it gives me the sense of anticipation on what happens next! Will the Jerry armour wreck havoc on the shermans or will the weight of numbers of the shermans overwhelm the Jerries!

George .... ???? WWII .... {eek3}
Gee I knew that you were a NAP and Civil War guy ... but WWII too!

Ya' spend weeks driving half way around the world, millions and million of miles and you think you know him ... :confused:

But seriously, that is, once again an incredible endeavor, a labor of love; a master piece of toy soldering (and possible a touch of insanity).
BUT that is what we all love about this hobby. :p :p And I should know .. when it comes to insanity I have been blessed with an abundance :tongue:

I must have looked at all those pictures for an more than a half-hours. Lots of fun things to discover.

Umm .. George does great WWII stuff too .. who knew!!!

Thanks Sammy, glad you like it, the picture of that piece David made for you on display at the London Show got me to thinking about WWII, this is the result...........

Thanks Tom, glad you like it; it's not going to end well for someone...............:wink2:

Thanks Larry and yes, I got a bit carried away with this one, but that's half the fun, right?

As far as WWII..............since Chicago is coming and it's an 18 hour drive, I had planned on telling you the story, but since the cat is out of the bag now, here's the short version; when I got back into the hobby in the early 1990's, first it was ACW, then Napoleonics.

A friend of mine told me I should go to Historicon, the biggest historical gaming convention in the US of A, so I took the trip expecting to find loads of 20mm ACW and Napoleonics there.

I found out once I got there that ACW and Napoleonic gamers prefer 15mm, not 20mm so there was nothing there for me in the way of those two periods, but there were loads of 20mm WWII to be found as that was a hugely popular scale and period; figures, tanks, buildings, LOADS of them.

The stuff looked really good, I bought some items to dabble in the period and the rest as they say is history.............................

Wonderful set up George. At this scale, you can do things you just can't do in bigger ones.

Just fantastic. What a great job. I would keep the dio in WW II setting and build another one for Your naps. Thanks: :salute::{bravo}}:salute::

Thanks Brad, glad you like it. And yes, this scale is ideal for what I like to do, that is for sure........

Thanks, I always appreciate your comments and you taking the time to chime in on the thread.

Funny you say that as the more I look at it, the less inclined I am to take it down, I could always leave it up, buy two more tables and put them on the other side of the basement..........:wink2:

George, that is one remarkable set-up. I have had a great time trying to spot all the different types of armor, guns, and troops but the real joy has come from the landscape and the buildings. There is just so much detail. I really like the whole centerpiece, the church, as it is on raised ground and you just know lots of blood will be spilled to gain, or hold, such a crucial observation/strong point. Wonderful job. -- Al

Thanks Al, glad you are enjoying the diorama. Funny the way this whole thing came about as said before, I intended originally to do a Napoleonic diorama, started putting buildings out on the mat and it didn't look right to me.

Then I happened to glance up at a shelf and saw the terrain board for the church sitting there and Sammy's awesome Normandy diorama that David from TM Terrain has been working on flashed into my head, so I grabbed the board and put it on the mat and it looked perfect.

Then I started putting hedges out and it looked even better, so I switched gears and this is the result.

Might be on a WWII kick for awhile now, we'll see...........
