August Dispatches - Eighth Army and Saracens (3 Viewers)

Like you guys I was impressed with the new releases.
However what happened to the British Paras Arnhem I am sure I read about earlier in the year ?. September I hope.
Now that Richard the Lionheart has arrived we could request Robin Hood, Maid Marion and the Sherriff of Nottingham etc. I am thinking along the lines of the Mel Brooks movie "Men in Tights" and in particular Robin and his bow with the multiple arrows. Just joking guys. My wish is still Rorkes Drift but I see on other threads Britains haeding that way.

Yep, that's the Santiago cross (which I mentioned above), but it's kind of strange because that order only fought in Spain against the Moors... does anyone know if any Spaniards joined the Middle Eastern crusades? Also, I'm not entirely convinced that's the cross K&C was trying to duplicate.

Yes, Spaniards did fight in the Holy Land during the Crusades(just about every part of Europe did), but early on the Church began to encourage the Spaniards to stay home and fight the Moors. The Church even put the Reconquista on par with the Crusades to liberate the Holy Land. As far as the Santiago order fighting in the Holy Land, I am not aware of their order being in the Holy Land. I have never read that.

Hi Brett,
Yeah!! Maid Marion...!!! Hmmm....that might provide me the female resistance fighter I'm looking for.....To be incorporated in a French/Belgium resistance display I've been kicking around with. She'd need to have a Sten Gun though....:)

'Maid Marion with a Sten Gun' sounds like a hit record to me;)

I didn't think too much of the last Robin Hood BBCTV series. Did anyone see it? Too much of a politically correct version of the story comparing Richard's Crusades to events in the middle east today.
But worst of all Marion wasn't all that hot!

Nope. Didn't see it Eazy.....Can't get the new stuff in ME or Asia.
But then again, if MM wasn't too hot, then I guess I didn't miss much :)
PS. Please send me another PM. I'd like to discuss writing styles with you if you don't mind.

Cheers

Yes it was rubbish wasn't it?.It thought it was so clever and subtle with modern messages within, when really it was just c***.Marion wasn't nearly saucy enough and Robin hood looked less like a hero and more like a burger bar assistant. Not a Patch on Dr Who that it replaced.

Rob

Certainly not a patch on Robin of Sherwood from the 80's. That had a good combination of realism and magic and cool fighting.

:cool:Yep! Give me Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone, Olivia Dehaviland,
and the rest of that classical cast anytime. That IS my favorite action movie of all time.
O.C.

Sorry, it will always be Prince of Thieves for me. Costner's speech in sherwood still gives me chills: "Then by God we'll take it back".

And that PoT music is awesome. "DUN, DUN, dadadadada DUN DUN..." :D

How about Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn in "Robin and Marion"? It a great twist on a story known by all.

At the risk of risking the wrath of many forum members (inlcuding Harry:D)and Bond fanatics,i have to say i never thought Mr Connery a very good actor actually.A bit wooden IMHO,although he did make a good Bond.
