Got my 10 new Crusaders today and Karl Otto' s Tiger. So i'm broke! 😁 And the wife said "New toy again?" 😩 I am pleased. 😍

First, you never ever open new arrivals in front of the wife. You pretend the packages are business related and then sneak them into your office or leave them in the garage. When she's out or asleep then you open them. If she walks into your toy room and says "Is that new?" You say no that's an older figure i'm just moving around my displays. I'm just downsizing my collection.

Okay; this topic needs to be renamed, "What To Tell the Wife So She Doesn't Think You Ordered a New Toy" or "How To Disguise Your K&C Order".

Some great ideas here - I think I've used a few myself.

Camo just doesn't work when it comes to toy soldier packages. :(

EDIT: I personally use the Holiday strategy but unfortunately run out of occasions; Fathers Day, Birthday, Valentines, Columbus Day, Groundhog Day... (and it just gets worse from here).

I had two boxes arrive with some of those excellent K&C French Hussars. They turned up on one of the few days she got home before me. The size of the shipment made her ask "So how much were these?"
"A couple hundred" I cleverly replied.
"Dollars!!" She exclaimed.
"No... pounds... they're from England......" I fessed up.
"Four hundred dollars!!!!" (This might have been shrieked)
It got worse from there, so I thought it best not to mention the cost of the secure international postage.....

Well I had the same problems as you guys. I went a bit more extreme. Got divorced, left my job, moved half way around the world, got a new job, found a wife with an even better paying job who also finds my hobby endearing.

Still the occasional criticism re space but no more sneaking around. Bliss. But hey where has the excitement gone!

I often use "that is something I ordered months ago." It doesn't work so well anymore.

This is a great thread! What a hoot! As a dealer i have three clients that have me mail their sets to their parents!

Love this thread. I've also used many of these lines, mainly to deal with my own guilt, as my wife really doesn't mind my hobby. I simply feel quilty about the amount of money spent so out come the old lines like 'this was ordered months ago and just came in' or 'my dealer has been holding this for so long I finally had to buy it'. I also tend to be home when UPS shows up which enables me to quickly put the new acquisitions on their proper shelves unnoticed, and allows me to dismantle and trash the delivery boxes without witness. This post will self destruct in 15 seconds... {eek3} -- Al

I have even resorted to arranging for my desert luftwaffe aircraft to arrive as we moved into the new house so as to be masked by the general disruption but the usual excuses are

I have given up alcohol this month so think of all the money we have saved and they arent that expensive
Its going to be a present for my brother for Christmas - I'm stockpiling it
I got a pay rise so really we arent worse off

And the really bad one

I thought you wanted me to have a hobby......
