The Toy Soldier Shoppe in Wisconsin closes up business effective 30 June 2016 ! Sad to see another Brick & Mortar store close. I guess Location and Traffic flow really is.....Everything !

With the internet and people's taste changing I think toy soldier shops will be a thing of the past.I give them another 10-15 years.
Mark

I don't think they'll disappear, but yes, just as with bricks-and-mortar hobby shops, or other businesses, like banks, it's expensive to maintain a physical plant compared to using the Internet and automated facilities (like ATMs), and I think we'll see most vendors selling online, with those who can afford it keeping a physical location as well.

Prost!

I believe Paul was getting up in years and chose to retire.

Paul is Retiring. Time for him to spend some time traveling and with family!

Thanks, so the reason for this toy soldier shop disappearing is not necessarily due to economic reasons.

Retiring....... So does this mean we can't turn this into ANOTHER gloom & doom thread about the hobby we're suppose to be enjoying.

CORRECT!!! We are infusing as much energy as we can here -- it will radiate out like rays of sunshine from Minnesota :eek:

Signature Quote from my personal email:
"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to be worth the effort."

That sounds like something Shannon would have said. When she was sending out the Rivet, she would post some great thoughts for that week. My favorite was "Holding a grudge is like letting someone live rent free in your head." Excellent words to live by.

A more positive person there never was, in my opinion.

That's the other big reason we see shops close.

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Prost!

Sorry to see him closing up and retiring but that is the way of it and there is the internet and of course Tree frog to get your fix in!

I wish all the best for Paul in his retirement.
He is a great guy, and I always enjoyed his company very much, when he participated in our evening meetings at some Chicago shows.
Loved his sense of humor.

Konrad,

As I spoke to Paul recently, I have it on good authority he will be at OTSN yet this year - evening meetings will still commence!

I spoke with him on the phone last week, and he simply stated 30 June was the last day. Never mentioned why but, It appears Retirement for Paul was due !

I have been to Paul's shop many times over the years. Paul is retiring and planning to spend time traveling with his wife. He will still be attending the Chicago Show. I am going to miss visiting the Toy Soldier Shoppe and talking with Paul. The store was only about 90 miles from my home. It is always nice to see and hold the toy soldiers before buying them. It is surprising there are no other toy soldiers store in the Chicago area.
