I have four early Trophy Indian Army Firing sets. I am not sure about what the correct set number is for these sets. There is IA6 The Firing Set which I have seen as having three each Sepoys standing and Sepoys kneeling, but I believe that I also saw somewhere that IA6 was comprised of an NCO with a pistol, three Sepoys kneeling and two Sepoys standing. Maybe the set changed over time or I may be mistaken in what I remember seeing.

In any case, here is my Trophy Indian Army Mountain Artillery Firing set with the box it came in with a home made label (not mine).

This is Trophy's Indian Army Firing Set with the 38th Bengal Infantry. I do not have a box for this set.

Hi Mike

Couple of very nice sets you have posted there:salute::

From what I can gather the FIRING SET #IA6 in the INDIAN ARMY/RAJ series had 3 standing and 3 kneeling firing listed in the catalogue. In the Afghan/NWF series the FIRING SET #NWF5 included 3 standing firing, 2 kneeling firing and a Havildar (Sergeant) firing a pistol

Cheers

Martyn:)

Hi Martyn,

I was hoping I would hear from you on this one. Thanks for your input. I agree that IA6 The Indian Army Firing Set had 3 standing and 3 kneeling firing. Interestingly, the Afghan/NWF series The Firing Set NWF5 you refer to is slightly different from my four sets in that they have 3 standing firing and 2 kneeling firing while my sets have the reverse. After starting this thread, I found a post from Tommy which identified a set composed like mine as TEK5A. I don't have a catalog that shows the TEK series sets, do you? Maybe Tommy can help us out. However, it has occurred to me that maybe I have "made-up" sets that were put together from singles.

This is my third Indian Army Firing set with the 45th Rattray Sikhs which I was able to identify and match to the empty Trophy box thanks to Martyn's input. I have a number of Trophy boxes that have this type of label. I wonder if this is from the factory or if it is a label made by a dealer ? I kind of suspect the latter.

The fourth and final Indian Army Firing Set is the 20th Bengal Infantry which is unboxed. NB: I also have advancing sets of each of these four regiments comprised of a British officer in a white pith helmet and five men advancing with fixed bayonets. I also have a various number of other figures with flags, bugles, an Indian officer, etc. from these regiments.

Hi Tommy

Here are the catalogue pages I have for TEK sets, I'm afraid I am missing set descriptions on TEK11, TEK12 and TEK13, it is possible that these were not issued as gaps have appeared in other series with no sets being released.

By the way your label with hand written set details is from the Trophy factory and quite legit

All the best

Hi Martyn,

Thank you for the TEK catalog pages and also for the answer regarding the hand written label set details. Much appreciated.

I have a set of The Royal Irish with an officer and five men advancing which doesn't seem to fit any of the three set possibilities that I am now aware of:

1) Set EW7 THE ROYAL IRISH should have an Officer reloading his revolver. A private passing out ammo and four privates standing ready with fixed bayonets.

2) Set TEK.3 ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT should include an Officer advancing with a drawn revolver, a bugler advancing, and four men advancing.

3) Set TEK.16 ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT should have an Officer and five men charging.

The unidentified Royal Irish set that I have is closest to TEK.3, but it does not have the bugler. In addition, the Trophy box is not labeled, so it doesn't help. What do you think?

Mike

Hi Mike

Here are a couple of my TEK3 sets, Post Office Rifles and KRRC (Kings Royal Rifle Corps). As you can see the POR have a couple of extra figures that were purchased at the London Show a while ago.

KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS

TEKKRRC.jpg

When the original TEK3 sets were listed the customer was able to buy individual figures and make up his own set as he prefered because each figure had it's own catalogue number FSO.16 – OFFICER ADVANCING WITH PISTOL, FSO.17 – BUGLER ADVANCING, FSO.18 – PRIVATE ADVANCING also the figures never came in a box if bought this way, maybe this answers your query about your set of RIR

All the best

Martyn:)

Thanks Martyn. I think that your answer explains it. Boy, those are nice sets that you have; I am going to look for them to add to my collection. I really like the bugler sculpt in particular.

Hi Mike

You might like to look out for this figure as well, the IA version of the advancing bugler

All the best

interesting set, i have not seen this one before. I have nine different sets of indians and i am always amazed to see new ones that i've not seen before pop up. It fun to see new color combos of these indian sets pop up. I wonder how many different regiments or sets were made.

That is a hard question to answer, isn't it? Another question would be how many sets of each Indian Regiment did Trophy make: Just one as a special order, a few, or dozens? I don't think we will ever know, but it is probably all three. The question is further clouded by the fact that one could buy unboxed individual single figures and make up a unique set.

Which regiments do you have and can you share photos?

Brad,

Thanks for the link. Yes, I actually did look at it a while back, but some attached photos had expired and couldn't be viewed. I was also curious as to what Hawkeye specifically had in his collection.

Hi Mike
