1/30 or 1/32 (1 Viewer)

 Maybe Andy , has to tell his Sculpture's, to make 1/25th Scale Molds, so if their is 'Schrinkage', it will definitely 'SCHRINK' to a True 1/30th Scale! CIAO!

I haven't seen the EA 20 set in person as yet so I can't comment on accuracy regarding the figure sizes but I should point out that the Aussie is actually a New Zealander as he has a "Lemon Squeezer" style slouch hat.

My mistake! Of course he's a New Zealander given it's an LRDG set. I guess Gil was talking about the Aussie standing firing in EA003.

John, which existing K&C figure or vehicle sets do you consider to be true 1/30 scale which could serve as a template for K&C? If you think K&C figures have tended to be too small, it might not be so good if suddenly K&C started making larger figures that were incompatible with all those they have produced before.

Hi Vandi, yes you Kiwis seem to be getting some good coverage in K & C models, maybe some Aussies will appear in the WWI range.

As for the LRDG etc, I thought the Aussies knocked it back because they were worried they wouldn't be able to get cold beer out in the desert ;)

You could be right ,from the bits and pieces i,ve read beer cold or otherwise was pure gold .
I,ve just finished reading a good passage about Aussies at
Tobruk ,doing a good old fashioned cavalry charge in thier trucks.
as opposed to disembarking 1000 yards fom their objectives and taking them on foot.
[driven by 4 rmt a new zealand unit ] as the author put it
quote 'This time having Australian passengers, who promptly turned a serious
operation of war into a steeplechase with heavy betting between the trucks.
once more speed paid a dividend' :D

I suppose this is off the subject of this thread but I remember reading an account, possibly from James Holland's Together We Stand: America, Britain and the Forging of an Alliance, that the Germans were initially taken aback by some Australians soldiers as the Australian soldiers charged into battle laughing and the author talked about the Germans and Australians fighting man to man while the Australians kept laughing. The Germans thought them quite insane.

I don't have a problem with the figures being slightly larger or smaller, that is actually more realistic in my small opinion. Some men have smaller builds, other men are more robust. There is no platoon in the army where everyman is 5'10" inches tall.

I think the vehicle issue is of some concern but there is not much we can do about sets produced over 10 years ago. My Arnhem jeep does seem a bit on the small side, I am guessing that it is probably 1/32. I do know that K&C strive for accuracy and quality and the lines have gotten incrementally better as the years go by.

Anyways my 2 cents :)

John

But in all those Fosters adverts their always in the middle of nowhere!;)

Rob

Robb, don't believe those adverts because Fosters is an export beer and very few Aussies actually drink the stuff.

Good news . I put the specs for a Panther, Sherman, and Stuart, through my scale converter program ( meters - inches ) Results
It seems Figarti got their scale wrong on the Honey an .Michael

What scale does the Figarti Honey come out to be??

Ooops. should have read down the rest of the posts. Sri

Is it possible that the vehicles and their figures are supposed to be 1/32 (as it says on the box) and that 1/30 is for the soldier sets. Dunno if k&c have ever specified at any time that their vechicles are 1/30 or whether it is just assumed so. There is nothing on the website or packaging to indicate they are 1/30 (but it is written on the box ,so as to complement 1/32)

The quote from the website dosen’t specify the scale of the dioramas or vechicles

“From humble beginnings, KING & COUNTRY has developed into one of the world's major designers and producers of all-metal, hand-painted 1:30 scale military and civilian miniatures.
In addition to their metal miniatures figures, the company has also developed an amazing and expanding range of scale model buildings, fighting vehicles and tanks, ships and aircraft, all made of polyresin.”

The only vehicles I have at the moment are the hummel and a few d-day vehicles but the figures in those vehicles do look smaller like they are 1/32 rather than 1/30.
Perhaps if the vechicles were fully 1/30 the scale would be unwieldly especially for the larger items in the range.

I’ve ordered plenty of other vehicles in the past week so its not really an issue for me.
It dosen’t in any way take away from my enjoyment of the pieces.

Not being vexatious about it , just curious!

...
Sherman W should be 3" actual 3"
.................L should be 5.7" actual 5.6"
.................H should be 3" actual 3" 1/30 SCALE

Stuart W should be 3.5" actual 3.6"
.................L should be 7.7" actual 7.6"
.................H should be 3.6" actual 3.6" 1/30 SCALE

...Also the calculations for the Stuart and Sherman should be reversed with the smalller dimensions for the Stuart ...
Reversing the smaller dimensions will give W: 3", L: 5.6", and H: 3" for Michael's measurements of a K&C Stuart. As previously posted, a 1/30 scale M3A1 Stuart should have dimensions of W: 2.9333", L: 5.9583" and H: 3.017", so K&C's Stuart is .36" or slightly more than 1/4 of an inch too short in length with the other two dimensions close enough for 1/30 scale. However, as pointed out by OzDigger, measuring vehicles is very difficult given front and rear track guards, air filters, etc. In addition, if you measured K&C's M5 Stuart, the references show its length was less than the older M3A1.:)

In relation to all this Came across an interesting Collectors showcase thread and pictures entitled "Has anyone gotten there CS TOBRUK Sets......" which compares similar models from K&c and CS . Appears to be a marked difference in size

CS figures have been larger than 1/30 scale K & C figures for some time, but the owner(s) of CS said their figures were going to be reduced in sized at some stage to 1/30. Personally I have never bought any CS figures or vehicles and would recommend that collectors wait until any new CS products are in stock and have been checked out for size etc until you part with any funds.
