Is it just me or are the war birds not that great. They don't look weathered or used.K&C do weather there stuff so why are this not battle used. The money they cost you would think they have fought at least one battle. Can't understand the big price and big deal about these planes.

Trust me, it's just you. I have a few of the old ones and they weren't weathered nor do I have an interest in any of them being done that way. The new ones are simply fantastic. Just received a Whirlwind and it's amazing.

Couldn't agree more. Just can't wait to receive my Arado.

Pierre.

Trust me Simmo, it's not just you ;) :D

The detail on the K & C aircraft still doesn't approach the detail on the 1/32 Corgi aircraft. It's good that K & C aircraft now have clear canopies, but painted on control surfaces etc are a poor substitute in a model around $800. However the K & C models are in more limited numbers than Corgi and K & C are producing models that Corgi etc would never have considered in 1/30-32.

As for weathering, I feel that it's best that K & C keep it at a minimal level because poorly executed weathering looks far worse than none at all. And collectors can always do their own weathering with chalk etc if they want that used look.

LOL it's not just me either! :D

I agree....its one of the reasons I dont get any of the planes...they look like they just rolled out of the factory....no engine burns...bullet holes...scuffed paint from crews walking on them...etc. If I ever made a dio of the end of a production line...sure...I'd pick one up.

I just like thinking about all the other really cool K&C I can pick up for $800....thats the entire Market Garden first release!

Hi WB-

And for me, it is exactly the contrary. I can have a Warbird for the same price of a bunch of figures and a couple of vehicules :D

Amitiés,
Pierre.

I'm sort in the middle between Brian and Pierre but closer to Pierre because Market Garden, FoB, etc. will be around for awhile but War Birds are made in very, very limited quantities. If you don't grab it when you can, say sayonara.

I don't see how they fit into the toy soldier scheme of things,i have collections of both aircraft 1/72 and a corgi 1/32 spitfire and a decent collection of toy soldiers and consider them separate collections.I know they are handmade and limited, but no aircrew pilots, with them and then showing Del Prado figures alongside, sort of defeats the point, don't get me wrong the swordfish looks outstanding, but surely a trick missed without ROYAL Navy Personnel.:(
Arnhem it is then,or the new Tiger:confused:

I own virtually everything K&C ever produced, and in my opinion, the new warbirds are fantastic. They look incredible on dioramas alongside the K&C figures and vehicles. And until you have held one in your hand, don't judge Corgi stuff as superior. I have held both, and the Corgi stuff, while nice, isn't even close to the quality of the new K&C warbirds.

I happen to like my aircraft looking brand new, but if I wanted to weather them it would be easy enough to do so. These are hand made works of art made in exrtremely limited quantities, and they are, for me, what collecting is all about.

So ,would people still collect Warbirds if they weren't in quote"extremely limited" does mass production not equal quality in some collectors eyes(collectors with less income would disagree),each to their own,i fell into the "extremely limited quantities " with Britain's and i wont swayed by it again,i collect what i like, different scales different mediums different time periods, and i would say my collecting is all about the hunt for a bargain and "that missing figure" my latest thing is Atlantic 60mm wild west figures, don't ask me why i couldn't tell you but, thats the way its always been( variety).Don't get me wrong i am not adversed to having the odd limited edition, but whose not say that the figures below aren't also a work of art? a Britain's deetail figure from my childhood a classic and a Schleich 90mm Gold Prospector and his donkey ,truly a work of art in plastic the sculpting is amazing for a "KIDS" toy,and to top it off it cost me £2/$4 off a car boot sale "HAPPY DAYS":D .
What constitutes a work of art:confused:
Don't anybody take offense at my views, but I'm ready for the incoming:D

I think you'd have to be working hard to take offence at anything you've said there Steve. I agree with your outlook. I won't buy something just because it's a limited edition - doesn't necessarily equate to a thing. The K&C Meyer set, the Patton - or someone who looks very much like him  Sherman are 2 examples from K&C, but most of the other companies have also got limited edition pieces still sat at dealers after a lengthy period of time.

I can see the appeal in having something that not many others have got, but I also would have to like the piece before shelling out wodges of dosh on it.

BTW, the Super Deetail Paras / Marines / SAS were, and still are, fantastic.

Simon

Ditto on that. Your figures aren't my cup of tea but, hey, to each his own. :)

Hi Steve,

Well said! :) And,...thanks for saying it. You and I share similar views. In terms of collecting interests, "diversity" should have been my middle name. I very much appreciate the fact that you purchase what you like and you do not limit yourself to a single maker, a single scale, or a single manufacturer. Having a diverse collection, in my opinion, is to have quite an interesting one.

Thanks for sharing your philosophy and for shareing some great pictures of your collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I got to get me one of them donkeys.Looks very much like the one I have.

Well it appears it is not just only me my friend.Don't think I am bagging these planes but I really think there just o.k.The S.A.S trucks to me are great. It is what appeals to each and eveyone so you buy your planes and I will stick to ground forces.

To each his own but if you saw and held one of them you might be swayed. I have seen many a person who held an opinion such as yours do a complete 180 when seeing them for the first time. I also have the SAS and LRDG and they are superb. On that, we can agree. :)

Hello Louis how are you going.I have not held one of the new planes in my hands just seen the pictures.Maybe if I had a warm fuzzy filling would come over me and I might have to buy one.I have seen and held the old ones with the painted glass and got no feeling at all. They are rubbish in my eyes and I would not touch them. But I will take you word for it that the new ones are the best in the world as I read all the post you write and you seem to no what your saying.Keep buying them over priced planes and I will keep reading your posts.

...Keep buying them over priced planes...

What is overpriced for one is not for another. For instance, I would never buy the StuGs (FoB or AK) as I find them overpriced. Useless to say that I have little interest, if any, in tanks. Accordingly, I can understand that you find the new warbirds expensive 'cause your lack of interest.

Pierre.
