Ken, Richard or anyone else,

I was enjoying the 2007 supplemental catalog when I noticed something on page 18, the Tactical Scenes section that caught my attention. In the pictures that show the new haystacks, fences, etc that we all can't wait to be released, I see the field is covered with hay or dryed brown grass or some such thing. What is that hay-field stuff and where can someone such as myself get it? That stuff would really add to any diorama and I would love to get some. Sorry, but I don't have the capability to post a picture of what I'm describing, but if anyone knows what it is I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I have a similar question: In the "It's Showtime!" thread below, the second picture down shows a World War 1 trench/bunker scenic with some W. Britains WW1 Germans on top carrying a machine gun. Is this great scenic going to be made available in the future?

Hello!
The grass you are looking at in the photos is a Hudson & Allen Studio product. It is Field Grass Autumn (HA9974), there is also a Field Grass Summer (HA9973). These products are available through Treefrog under the heading of Hudson & Allen Studio. If you have any questions about any of our products or how to use any of the products, please just ask us. The photos from the W.Britain catalogue (and the ones below) were taken here in our studio and sent on to Richard Walker.
Hope this helps,
All the Best,
Ericka Osen

Thanks a lot Ken, you don't know how much I appreciate it!! I will now move from the forum side over to the Treefrog shop and order myself some.

Keep up the great work.

Hi There! I think the part you are asking about was made by Formtech and is sold by Hobby Bunker and Michigan Toy Soldier, Minuteman and others. This was an additional part designed by the Formtech staff that could be used with the five part WWI trench system I made for them some years ago.
The downside is that most of the parts were designed to be used with plastic playset figures and as a result are too large to fit in most display cases. What you might consider is to purchase one or more of these and cut them to fit your display area as they are molded from light density styro urethane foam and easy to modify. I would also recommend repainting them to a standard that will compliment your white metal pre decorated figures. If you do please consider water based paints so you do not damage the open cell areas of the cut foam molding.
Plan on seeing some interesting WWI/II scenics from W. Britain this coming year too. Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the info. I looked through those retailer's websites and unfortunately couldn't find the exact trench section in question (if anyone else knows where it can be purchased, I'd be very greatful for the info), but on the upside I came across some other interesting formtech terrain so thanks for that! I look forward to future Britains WW1 scenics.

If your talking about the trench in the photos from the deham show??? I believe the dealers name was Marx men. I don,t have any link for him but if any one else has a link for Marx men he may still have the piece or may be able to get another one for you. Try a web search with his name.

Here are some form tech bunkers I got from Hobby Bunker a few years back. I did not know Ken made these. John

Hi There! That is one of the smaller sections that I did for the original set some years ago and this part will fit in most folks display cases. A very easy, but effective way to paint these is to spray them with a mottled finish by using some of the inexspensive flat finished camo paints sold in stores like Meijer or Wal Mart. You can usually get black, green, brown or tan. If you use a dark or even black base coat, spray one or two other colors lightly over this while the base coat is still wet. When this is dry use the inexspensive water base craft colors from Michaels or another craft store and paint or dry brush the details. You will be amazed how nice these simple foam items can look if finished with paint. I have also customized some of these with the addition of wooden posts, pigs tails and barbed wire in addition to the paint.
Ken

HIGHBALL THE GLOSS!!!
I thought my matte collection would surpass the gloss. Then Britains comes out with that great Guards' Band circa 1815 and WOW!! And I find a great old Band of the Mounted Scotts Greys.

I think Britains are coming out with nice stuff lately from Ken Osen and Richard Walker. I am collecting the Bluecoat and Redcoat series and look forward to the French/Indian war stuff. I like the band also, but usually don't buy bands. Leadmen
