Is this a free forum . (1 Viewer)

Quite frankly, I do find the censorship on this forum rather annoying at times. This perspective may not be well received, but it is my honest opinion.

I call it censorship because that is essetially what it is. Label them rules, good etiquette, peace and harmony for mutual respect, whatever, its still, at the end of the day, limits what one can say. Some subjectivitiy is involved as well. That is clearly censoring.

Now admittedly, it is TreeFrog's forum, and therefore they have the right to run the forum as they see fit. I happen to think its a bit much at times, and hopefully Im entitled to that opinion? To me it does make it feel a bit like Big Brother is watching, and that takes some of the fun out of it.

Of course, those of us who really dont like the restrictions are free to spend our time elsewhere. That is a great thing about the internet. Moreover, if we are REALLY unhappy, it would not be unprecedented to start a competing site. Note: Im not volunteering, just pointing it out.

Indeed, perhaps this post will be a good test? :)

Sure, let someone go ahead and start a competing site with no rules and everyone gets to act like *********....One can just imagine how few quality members that would entice...Michael

My two pence worth; I love this place and most of the people here. This place is kind of a home to me. We squabble once in a while, Families do that. Sometimes we get to stand in the corner. Every home has a few rules. This place is free and you get what we pay for. Servers are not free. This comes out of Shannon and Peters pocket if you will. They are entitled to see things go smoothly and with little hassle. I have not been censored here. Have on other sites once or twice for really small stuff. Seemed like favoritism to me. I will not use names. Anyroads, I like it here. suggestion if you will. If you get censored or have a post removed ask nicely. Try to learn from the mistake.

Shannon, I really like the Drunken monkey remark. May I use it as a trade mark? Or is it a form of Kung-fu?;)

Hmmm, what do you mean "let someone"? Of course, there is no letting about it, its simply would be someone's choice -- or not.

Maybe "everyone" would act like *********, maybe they wouldnt. I make no assumptions.

Clearly, another site might attact some members from here, or maybe it wouldnt. Whether or not they would be "quality" would be for someone else to "judge" :)

Hmmm....having considered both sides of the coin, I have to say that I tend to go with your call Rutledge. And surely whether someone is acting like a Jack*** is purely a matter of personal perception?

Just to assure you good folks
I am only kidding
I am sorry if anyone took my post in the wrong way

I think commonwealth country nationals ( Australians, Brits and Candians) are not citizens but subjects of the British crown. Therefore they have no inherent rights. Americans are citizens of a great republic with a constitution therefore they have an enshrined right to free speech.

No I am not kidding, these types of comments are irrelevant and often very offensive to other forum members.

In fact comments about current politics are clearly a breach under section 4 of the Toy Soldier Forum Rules and Etiquette rules found in the FAQ section in the green colored banner above.

Bullet point four under Section four of the forum rules states: Historical discussion is fine, current politics are not. This is a toy soldier forum so keep to the topic and related topics. If you want to post your political opinions do so elsewhere on the political forum of your choice.

The addition of several smilies or other emoticons to someones post has little effect on what was actually stated. IMO emoticons are often used to cover up some basic prejudice(s) the individual may hold. And when brought to task, they try the "I was only kidding" excuse to cover what they said.

well Damien comments regarding the status of subjected nations versus those who have formed themseleves into republics are not current political points but historical facts that have persisted to this day. I'd hardy call their subjugation a couple of centuries ago current affairs:D

Can the the old guys of the forum let me no why somethings can be said and others can't.I have had a few threads taken off over the short time I have been on this site.Others have been band.I have not sworn at anyone just put across a few points of view.I have found if you knock anything at all about K&C products you stand the chance of being jailed for a week.I have read the rules and feel they are not broken but it says they can pull anything they find that displeases them.Sometimes I wonder weather I should bother with any of this at all. What should I do.

Simmo, sadly I have to agree with you.

Oz, i consider myself a big K&C fan but i don't think i've ever insulted another members country,if i have then i apologise unreservedly.I would never intentionally offend anyone,i come on here for the sharing of my collecting and to find out whats going on in the hobby. There is enough aggro in the world without having it here too!.I also have no problem at all with anyone criticising any company, its a free world after all.One mans meat is another mans poison as they say.I would just hate it if all K&C fans were considered bigots or Rabid nutcases!(I have enough of that with the inlaws!!....kidding,love em to bits really)

Cheers

What is still in effect is current whatever the history of the matter.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this, considering the title of this thread but I'm temporarily pulling a bunch of posts until I can consult with Shannon.

WELL SAID MY LORD GENERAL.......THE LT.

I try to be as objective as possible when moderating the board and edit and remove posts as little as possible as do the moderators. I would love it if I never had to edit anything and people would just police themselves and think carefully about the effect something they have said in irritation will have in snowballing into a brawl. The greater majority of the members do not have any trouble with this actually and I am thankful for them.
Since this forum is "free" for anyone to join however we get a wide variety of temperaments. I do not meticulously screen each applicant to make sure they will do their best to get along with other members, monitor their first 10 posts to judge whether they will actually carry out their agreement to "play by the rules" which is agreed to at registration, or put every post in queue to be approved before it is made live and public. Those are all options with this forum software.

We have seen what happens when people begin to make personal attacks on each other. The focus quickly turns away from toy soldiers and turns into a platform for people to rid themselves of angst at the expense of others. Since this forum is here to promote the hobby we strive to keep the focus on the hobby. This doesn't mean that everyone has to agree - that would make for a boring place. We can disagree without personal attacks.

Rutledge, the rules and moderation of a large board like this one might not fit your style. The 'rules' are necessary to keep the talk on soldiers and not on personal attacks. We have a growing number of younger collectors joining and reading the forum. They ensures the strength of this hobby for years to come, so we aim to keep the forum appropriate for ages 13-113.

For those who do not like this or consider it censorship, this forum may not be for you. We understand that we can not please all people all the time. Hopefully we can please most of the people most of the time.

Well said Shannon. If worried about rights go somewhere else where you guys can insult anybody you feel like without censor.Who wants to read your crap anyway. Leadmen

Once again I apologise for my post causing an upset. It was not my intention. I personally asked Shannon to remove it and I support her and Brad in this.
