Just a follow up to Graycap’s post in the K&C threads :salute::

(I wanted to post pictures of Corgi figures but not obviously on the K&C pages.)

I was wondering how much real support there would be for Falklands War figures amongst British collectors.

I know W Britain has produced three figures - I was not too impressed. That leaves the two Corgi figures pictured below. In my opinion two very nicely done figures that capture something of the Falklands campaign.

The Falklands War has been notably ignored by Toy soldier manufacturers so far (the five figures mentioned are the only FW TS figures I am aware of.)

Any comments would be appreciated :)

Yes, though I would probably only buy a handful. I would be more likely to add to the three WB figures I have for Iraq/Afganistan.
I can't see it being a popular enough range for a producer like K&C to even break even on. One of the smaller producers might if they had an interest in the subject, but it would be a very big gamble, such as I see someone has made some figures for Northern Ireland. which I would think to be an even smaller market !
Other than Vietnam and that' I imagine is mostly down to quite a few collectors having served there and interest raised by the many films on it.
I don't think there is much interest globally amongst collectors for anything post ww2, though as time goes on and assuming enough people come into the hobby then in years to come there may well be.

I can't see that it would be popular enough outside of the U.K. to justify production.

Roy,

As one might expect, Uruguayan maker Hiriart has two Falklands War Argentine sets in its catalog. I don't have either one in my collection, but I am attaching a stock photo of set 1003 INFANTERIA DE MARINA, ARGENTINA . These are Argentine marines armed with a machine gun and FAL rifles. The second set which I don't have a photo of is set 1051 COMPANIA DE COMMANDOS 602. I believe that they are wearing stocking caps.

Thank you very much for the info and photo Mike :salute:: (I love the penguin) :)

I was thinking in particular of Matte finish figures  - although these are very nice!

Previously I have asked Ken about a Falklands War series.

I offered a view that for many of my generation it was our first experience of the UK being at war - as opposed to counter insurgency operations - and therefore, would have thought it might do well in the UK. But only UK.

Interestingly Ken said that Marines and Scots Guards - both who were present - do well in the US so it might have broader appeal than just the UK.

Ken was interested to consider it but at a London Collectors Club Event when he sought wider feedback the response from those present was poor.

Brad mate,
They said that about the K&C Australian Light Horse range when they came out some 7 years ago. "Will only sell in Australia". That was proved wrong really quickly. Range still going strong today. My number one selling products. I am sure the question of the Falklands War will be asked of Andy when he visits OZ in July.

Thanks very much for that Gazza :salute::

I targeted British collectors particularly as I had a sort of (crazy?) idea of possibly a group of us banding together and approaching a British TS manufacturer with a view to producing a small run of Matte, reasonably detailed Falklands figures that were not too expensive.

Sort of “British conflict - British made for British Collectors” ish…… and of course anyone else who would be interested. (We would be in effect guaranteeing a market for them……)

Go for Broke (thank you again) :)has just opened my eyes to a British manufacturer (small set up – great) :salute::
Who had already done this.

I’m wondering if these sets could be revived……… They look pretty good to me.............

Hi Roy,

That's not quite right. Both Chota Sahib and New Hope Design were companies that had various Falklands War figures available in the 1980's and 1990's that would go well with those Corgi figures. Albeit they were kits, but certainly they were around. I'm sure if you had a look through Mirof's catalogues you would find more.

There are quite a lot of Falklands War figures available in 1/35 scale and 28mm wargames figures. So there must be some interest out there. And yes they do look good.

Thank you muchly Scott for your informative advice :salute:: The “New Hope Design” look very interesting I’ll follow those up – yet more I was unaware of

I think though, all round, the best Falklands figures I have seen are the “Black Dog” 1/35 resins, they are superb.

Lots to think about – but I would still like some “to go” ^&grin

As you say, there must be some interest out there..... but it's looking like probably not enough.......... for what I had in mind..........after all

Howard:

The Australian Light Horse series seems to be very popular at Sierra. Each time I am in it seems that a customer asks about that line when they see it on display.

Best,
Jason

I’m a Brazilian collector and would certainly buy them if K&C decides to produce a Falklands range.
I think that a significant quantity of collectors, specially over the age of 50, will be interested, considering the massive coverage all over the globe that this conflict had during its small, but highly publicized, duration.

There was a bit of media interest in the conflict several years ago. I think they were commemorating thirty years of the conflict (2012). Airfix made some Falklands aircraft and ship sets.

I agree about the age factor. I remember the conflict happening whilst at school.

This documentary was released a few years after, which I thought very well done.

Wish Matchbox had and Revell would upscale their British Red Beret Paratroopers to 54MM.What's the scariest thing anybody ever said to you?"Fix bayonets"

"Old Bill" - thank you for spreading the campaign for Falkland Islands 1982 figures. I also have the two Corgi figures (both based on illustrations in the Osprey Book on Uniforms of the Land Forces) and the Britains "Elite" Series figures. I also have the 1/32 Airfix plastic "Modern British Infantry" which can serve as 5th Brigade troops - certainly the variety of uniforms on the British side I thought would be attractive to collectors. The AFVs used on the islands were Scorpions (excluding the RM's BARV Centurions) - so models should come in at the lower end of vehicle pricing. Anyway I'll keep on hoping that Andy's RM roots might eventually persuade K & C to give it a go - someday! Keep up the campaign!
