Hi all,
it's been around a year since I first started building my own dioramas--a life long ambition. Steadily I'm getting better, trial by error, and lots of luck, the journey has been exceptionally enjoyable. I finished my latest building last week (photos on the diorama section of forum) and have many more planned. I realised I needed a base to display the buildings on, where I could reconfigure streets etc, so I made a cobble base using Das model clay, individually press/stamping each cobble which was mild lunacy, and then hand painting many cobbles which was probably comfirmation of my madness. I think the results are quite pleasing, but more pleasing was covering all that hard work with toy soldiers. Here are some photos.

I've taken loads of photos which I'll probably make into a photo slide show video at some point.

Cheers,

Ollie.

This looks really great, Ollie. The amount of work shows.

I personally like it gritty and would probably add a little grey dust on the street and isolated tufts as weed on road and roofs. But then, that is me.

Well, Ollie, if that is the result of "Madness" :p I sure hope I can catch a bit since the result is wonderful.
When you said, "the journey has been exceptionally enjoyable" that rang true to me also. It is not so much about getting to the END point but having a wonderful time along the way ... and your dio shows it.

Keep enjoying the travels and we all hope to see a great deal more of your talent...{sm4}

Now THAT is what I call a diorama; beautiful work Ollie, you did a fantastic job on every aspect of this.

Thanks for sharing your work, I hope to see more from you.

Again, this is brilliant.

Ollie, one can only imagine the “mad” amount of work it took to get this done... but let me say it was worth every minute, because it’s simply outstanding! Congratulations!!

Hi Ollie,

that's a great diorama!{eek3} I'll never get tired of seeing it. I ought to tell you : "well begun is half done"

Cheers

The results of your year long effort are more than pleasing.
I love the fact that you scratch built buildings and roads, and as you point out it was "mild lunacy" WELCOME TO THE CLUB

Congratulations Ollie on a very fine looking diorama indeed. Excellent work on the dio base and buildings and I look forward to more of your scenes in the future.

Thanks for the kind words. It's a pleasure to share the enjoyment with fellow enthusiasts.

Totally know where you're coming from, mate. I may go down this road, so to speak, with a sack of dust. There are so many possibilities. Ideally I'd love to create a scene with uneven dirt tracks ascending shady passageways with burnt grass, tumbled down walls, walled gardens. Initially though my concern was that the soldiers would not stand on such an uneven base. But I'm sure I'll work something out. The obsession drives me on.

Thank you Larry, and yes, the process is enjoyable, the momentum, the problem solving, the anticipation, achieving a satisfying result. It's a passion and thankfully, I don't think it's possible to reach and end with this pursuit, so the happy journey winds on.

Thank you Guy. Always lovely to hear from such a talented modeller in respect to my efforts. I look forward to your Flanders diorama.

Cheers,

Ollie

I get more pleasure from putting together a diorama these days than the collecting aspect of the hobby. I feel bored if i'm not actually building something
but of course there is a lot of down time waiting for glue to bond and paint to dry properly. The best part is placing the figures when it all comes together.
You certainly have created a great scene that you can be proud of and the effort has paid off. Greg.

Certainly shows in the detail the tremendous amount of time and effort you've put into this amazing diorama. Well done !:salute::

Steve
