I have been a collector for nine years now. And every now and then I regret not having acquired a certain set. Some of the sets that come to mind are the Matilda, the first winter Tiger, the winter half-track, the gloss motorcycles... However, the set that I remember the most is one that I saw when I first started collecting K&C in 1999. I bought several sets from Trade Wind in Hong Kong, and at the time they had available a Jagdpanther. I considered buying it, but hesitated. When I finally made a decision, the Jagd had been sold. To this day I have not even been able to see it for auction or even in pictures. Soooo...

For you, what is the "one that got away", and how far would you go in order to acquire it if it were available?

Bought a retired Matilda for $99 list.....Sold it for $250...got sellers remorse bad...bought it later for $250 from a dealer....no regrets.Michael

For me i guess the Jimmy Truck is the one item i would have liked to have at the original price. They are still about but a bit rich for my blood. But i guess thats the joy of collecting, you can't buy everything so you have to make choices.

Michael made the right decision buying the Matilda again,it is a sweet looking Tank and one of my very favourites.

I agree - I remember the old K&C Warbirds and use to say to myself - $250.00 for one plane ! hahaha - looking back now almost makes you want to cry.

My missed sets were LEE TANK ! and the WINTER TIGER ! - back then I was focused on ACW and Napoleonics only.

I purchased a GMC truck and the figures at original price, then I got an idea that I wanted a second truck. I looked at eBay and for a year or so several were out there at about 60 US dollars. I dithered and delayed and then they were GONE! At least I have the one, but it would like company. I'm guardedly hopeful that Andy might make another in the BoB series.

Over the years I bought at least 15 warbirds from your dad, including the huge Junkers JU52. I also bought the RAF Qounset hut, and at least 5 of the early wood, metal and resin vehicles from your mom and dad.

K&C, UK was always the best supplier of the old Warbirds, and your dad deserves enormous credit for having the forsight to see what K&C was going to become at a very early time, well before anyone else did.

Hi Gil, that's a coincidence, today I got my K & C Jagdpanther (WS059) out of a cupboard to sell at a fair over the weekend. If you are still after this set please send me a personal message.

Oz,

The WS59 Jagpanther came out in 2005-2006. I think Gil (Pfeil) is referring to the resin and metal Jagpanther (TK03) that came out in July, 1997. This Jagdpanther originally retailed for $371, less than 50 were made, and if it did come up in the secondary market, it probably would command a price north of $1,000.

The last time it was on ebay was almost two years ago and it hit $560 then. Considering where the prices are today, $1,000 is about right and may actually be conservative.

K&C German Puma, always a sucker for lesser known armor/vehicles.

The Stug 111 seems so elusive.

I think the first one I remember seeing was WS11?? I passed on it to get the DDay landing craft and then it was gone- poof- never to be seen again. Somehow though, I ended up with the TC but the tank isn't there.

I wasn't collecting during the second release of I so I missed that one.

I Picked up 2/3 "wrelics" Sets at retail several years ago- guess which one I don't have- the Stug

Either way, I would only pay $100 or whatever it retailed for. I just don't pay markups.

Thanks Louis, I did wonder why Gil had trouble finding the later Jagdpanther. Next time I'll take more notice of dates :)

Btw, here's a pic of TK03 (from Sagers Soldiers & Miniatures website) for those that haven't seen it:

That's a shot from my collection, taken in my dining room during the 2006Symposium.
