Think whoever did the procuring should of been fired going by the comments of the edibility of the ration for troops, they made the mistake of using green Lima beans before they ripen into what's called butter beans here, which are nice !

Poisoning is most likely caused by the Lectin in any Green Beans, not a good idea idea to eat Green uncooked beans.

That's interesting Matt, I didn't know that.

Fortunately C Ration meals coming in cans were already cooked, so the troops could just open the cans and eat the meal cold, or if conditions allowed cook them.
As with us all, they'd be favourite meals, and as Mike confirms the unwanted by just about everyone ones too.
And I'm sure it's the same today with Military Ration Packs, I hear the French ones are sought after for exchange when French troops are nearby.
