Just seen this. Very disappointing. Put historical accuracy to one side the Waterloo depiction was a bit rubbish. Duke of Wellington as some old fool. Obviously spent a lot of money on it. Maybe it’s too big a subject for 3 hours. All seemed skimped over. Shame.

Hi Nicholas,

I think most historically minded people would agree with you. I have mixed feelings about historical films. I appreciate it when the director and actors get the set and feeling right even if the story diverts from history, but I am also just generally thankful when a historical subject is the topic/theme for a film.

Would have to agree. I held off seeing it due to all the negative commentary, but eventually succumbed and gave it a go. From an entertainment point of view it ticked the box, however as for historically accuracy it was poos.

I'm a big fan of Ridley Scott too, however he dropped the ball with this one. What was particularly disappointing was he didn't need to make stuff up and add things.

It would have been better to have made part 1 and part 2 movies , opposed to cramming in what was an eventful life story......just my 5 cents worth.

Agree with you Toddy. I'm a Ridley Scott fan as well, his Alien films, Blade Runner, Gladiator etc, all great movies but Napoleon was a failure IMO. He compounded the numerous and often risible historical inaccuracies with wasting too much film time on Napoleons romances, especially that hussy Josephine. And I have to add that the casting was poor, could have done better myself ;)
