Hi everyone, just wondering:
1) if anyone knows if there was any further update regarding the fate of the Marlborough range?
2) if anyone has any of the following sets and may be open to selling:
A. Marlborough sets
D129 Kutch flag bearer
D148, D148a, D149, D149a (the Kishengarh armored...
Hi All, hope everyone is well. I was just wondering if anyone has come across a uk based toy soldier manufacturer called T&M models before? If yes I should be grateful if you can share any details about them, lists of what they produced and/or pictures of any examples of their sets. Many thanks
Hi.
Which Marlborough palanquin are you looking for specifically as I believe they did 2 sets. The first was D144 Nobleman of Cambay in Palanquin. The second was D165 Nobleman from Jodhpur in his Palanquin. I managed to find D144 after many years spent looking for it and am still looking for...
Hi Ana, thanks again for sharing the pictures showing the making process. How long does it usually take for you to complete a new elephant from design, molding, casting and finishing the painting process?
Congratulations Ana on these new wonderful editions to your superb range of toy soldiers! Your attention to detail and the fantastic vibrant colours are always a delight to see. I look forward to seeing pictures of the making process. Best wishes
Hi Ana
Thanks for sharing the photos of the Hyderabad finials - definitely three!
You will probably have seen the attached photo of the Mysore elephant but I thought I would share as it is my favourite!
Best wishes
Hi Ana
In case of interest to you, I attach a picture of an Ambari from a museum in Hyderabad. I’m not sure if it is the same as used in the 1903 Durbar but very similar. What makes me doubt if it’s the actual one from the 1903 Durbar is the number of finials. This one has two but I think the...
Hi Ana, hope you are well. My personal thoughts are that the Mysore elephant is the one you may want to consider making as the versions by Marlborough and Royal Express (Bill & Kay Speer) are great but not entirely accurate. I have both of these too and attach photos.
The Marlborough version...
Hi, I respect you are a purist and think your displays using sets from a single manufacturer look great. I personally like the variation between different manufacturers as the photos from the Durbar show that there were elephants and people of all different shapes and sizes and by combining...
Hi Ana
Happy New Year! You may be aware that Marlborough also produced a viceregal elephant and WM Hocker also produces a viceregal elephant which although for the earlier Durbar nevertheless works well as part of any Durbar display.
The Marlborough and WM Hocker elephants are not very tall -...
Hi All, I attach some photos of a figure of a maharajah that I have in my collection which I understand is by Nostalgia. It depicts a maharajah seated on a throne (which is shaped like Maharajah Ranjith Singh’s golden throne at the V&A museum) beneath an umbrella canopy. I have a similar figure...
Hi I was looking around on the forum and saw a couple of threads from 2009 (referring to Royal Empress Ltd) and 2012 - the latter included the following contact details but mentioned Bill and Kay had retired.
Royal Express Ltd, GA, Bill & Kay Speer, tel: 404-355-0971 e-mail address is...
Hi! Thanks! Bill and Kay Speer from the US owned Royal Express. I was lucky enough to order the Shan Elephant directly from them (after finding the Mysore Elephant on eBay). I saw some elephant sets on the OTS auction last year I think but most of them were generic (not based on actual elephants...
