The first time I commissioned Marion Ball to paint a figure for me for the competition for the MFCA was in 2014. I picked a figure from the Compagnies Franches de la Marine which won a gold medal that year.

I had a really good show and enjoyed it a lot. It is not quite on pre-pandemic level as many people try to avoid international travel, but it was fun seeing many familiar faces. PS : Or frankly, some have Covid.

The number and quality of Fantasy models increased. It clearly helped bringing new faces to the hobby and for the first time there was a decent contingent of 20 to 30 year old painters in the crowd and in the award ceremony.
Marion & Allan have customers who are great N.C. Wyeth fans and commission small vignettes based on his illustrations. There is at least one every year. This year, they brought three as this was the first trip they made to the US.

I am of course totally biased, but my favorite figure was the Teutonic Knight by Marion & Allan Ball that I had commissioned before the pandemic hit. This one was a lot of fun as I took the liberty of working with them on the modifications to the kit figure.
