I do some mold work- usually my fee is 'cost of materials x2'; but I would also recommend asking at:

lol I learned that the hard way too- it just means that you need to cut a fill chamber at the point where the vent goes across- that way the metal spends more time filling the fill chamber before it can get to pushing the air back into the mold ;)
Well this is one of the few forums for tips so here are some of my newest ones concerning pour cavity and venting:
Vocabulary
Pour cavity- the large funnel shape void in the mold that the molten metal is poured into
Figure Cavity-the female shape of the figure/miniature
Venting-the small...
Just finished Paths of Glory 'The Life and Death of General James Wolfe' by Stephen Brumwell. It is an excellent writeup of Wolfe's early military career and has great detail on the Louisbourg and Quebec campaigns.
Armoury Toys & Hobbies will be offering liquid plastic casts of this line! Should have info on his page when he has some sets for sale around the 18th

I only have a few of Johns figs- but what is clear is that because he loves the period the figures he makes are top notch. It is the difference between work vs a job perhaps? His figures have that natural charm that sculptors work years to develop- natural poses and each figure is in itself a...
I find that the flag is fine if it is positioned back across the bulk of the figures base- but if it swings forward it tips the figure. I know most of you fellows wouldnt dream of gluing it but if you take some masking tape and apply it around the flags pole where it sits in the bearers hand...
I know he mentioned that he started when working in Canada- Toronto I think though he was in Edmonton at one point too.
I got some of his figures and to be honest I thought that they were perhaps the best I've seen. I dont get many collectable toy soldiers but I do get lots of other...
My 'natives' with muskets set is almost done (whoops should be a 3rd torso in that pic  )
Also I needed some markers for 'unconscious' for my game and it was suggested that wounded figs would also be good for diaramas- they have the optional head feature from my figs. The two here...
thanks, I think I'll get that- I found it for as low as $3 used on amazon!
For anyone who would like a more francaphone perspective I'd recommend "Battles Without Borders" The Rise and Fall of New France, Bill Twatio, ISBN 1-895896-28-2

Thanks! The really nice paintjob in the front left was the one I had a pro paint for me- he is amazing and the skin tones are very 'true' I find. PM me if you would like his contact info as he is amazing.
The rest of the redcoats are all my normal stock paintjobs lol- and the background is...
Ranger units seem to have a wide variety of uniforms and some were far less formal than others. Most Lights and Rangers really didnt get 'respect' and official military uniforms until much much later- most uniforms were cut down/tailored versions of the french and british coats. In fact after...
The following is a list of the parts I've sculpted to date, then the code combination to create various soldiers from the French & Indian War. Because the uniform for some troops varied wildly some units can mix and match parts from other sets more readily so this is a conservative list. In fact...
