I notice most on this post that really don't care about a Pacific range are from the UK or Australia.I bet you will see a lot of Americans on the forum say they do or have just given up on KC making a Pacific range and hope someone else will.
Mark

Yeah us Aussie,s dont care about the Pacific why would we.......... what a stupid comment its just that Andy has said NO so why flog a dead horse we dont care unbelievable.Yeah us Aussie,s didn.t do much in WW2 let alone the Pacific.

The reason the Pacific doesn't sell is simple. There aren't any Nazis in the Pacific. It seems to me the majority of WW2 toy soldier collectors have a strange fascination with Nazi gear and uniforms. What that fascination is, I don't understand. If all companies stopped producing WW2 Nazi figures and vehicles, what would WW2 sales look like?
I've given up hope that K&C will produce Pacific figures, though I have been collecting the 1930 USMC figures, which I think are awesome. I just imagine they're on Wake Island.

Wasn't my intention to start an old debated topic...here are a few reasons I feel like the topic could have/should have/might have been re-visited and the reason for my initial posted to which Andy responded. Being new to the forums I was not aware of any previous discussions and didn't see anything current upon a search.

1. The airing of HBO series which has absolutely generated interest in the Pacific...in my neck o' the woods its become water-cooler talk every Monday and often throughout the week (even the ladies are into the show). I've noticed quite a bit of products to go along with it. At book stores in my area there are tables revolving around the Marines and various Pacific campains. Highlighting most of them are the two books from which The Pacific are based on (in case you want to read them "Helmet for a pillow" and "With the Old Breed".

2. The opening of the absolutely incredible National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA in 2005. If you have any interest at all in military I can't recommend this place enough. Disney was consulted on its creation, its absolutely free, and just plain breath taking. This place alone has created a surge of interest in Marines, The Pacific, and the military in general.

3. That fact that the 65th anniversary of Iwo will soon be upon us as well as as a "all of sudden" rush of patriotism dealing with the vets of WWII who are becoming fewer and fewer by the day. It's become more of "subject of interest" of late. I would assume this is worldwide, yet Im certainly not qualified to speak of anything outside of my area.

So...again, I apologize to those who felt I was beating a dead horse..I am new to the forums and just felt like it was the perfect place to post an honest question. Andy knows his business and what will sell and I could not, would not presume to think otherwise. I was just incredibly pleased he took the time to answer my inquiry. Makes me even happier to be part of this hobby and these forums.

It's not a stupid comment but it's been brought up a lot because of the new mini-series which focus on 3 Americans and the USMC.I am not degrading Australian forces in any way As I said on another thread that I would love to see a mini-series on British and ANZAC forces and I have said before I thought the ANZACS were some the best troops in WWI and WWII.I made the statement about UK and Australian collectors because I don't see them overly excited about a range which probably would have a large portion of US Marine figures.Everyone knows the sacifices made by Australian forces.I think all the allies had a lot of men that could be John Basilones'

Wayne I edited my post as I reread yours. You mis interpreted my meaning as saying Australians don't care and that's not true at all.Lets leave it at that.

There is probably quite a bit of truth to this, but I think it has to do more with the German vehicles. Plus, it seems Hollywood has paid more attention to the European war over time, which certainly could have some influence. A combination of factors made people in general more interested in the European Theater. Just look at all the shows that appear on the history and military channels. There is also a little more diversity of setting in the European Theater for diorama enthusiasts. All that said, it does seem there would be more interest in the Pacific Theater than exists.

I really hate to belabor this point because, as George said, we go around, around and around but it's not just Hollywood. In WW II the Combined Chiefs of Staff (USA and UK) decided that priority was to be given to the European theatre and more resources were allocated than to the Pacific theatre, a decision with which the Navy and Admiral Ernest King were not very happy. Whenever the Americans wanted the British to see their way, they would threaten to divert resources to the Pacific. We could argue whether that was the correct decision (in my opinion it was) but for whatever reason the Allies decided that priority should be given to the European theatre, it was the prevailing sentiment at the time.

Ok no Pacific - but how about Burma, Malaya etc? The General Slim club figure suggests something is on the cards. Maybe.
Who wouldnt want Chindits and Gurkhas and Anzacs?

I am from Asia, Burma, Malaya. Are in the Pacific (PTO).

Rob et al....

Was it not Michael Caine who took his kids out of a US school when they taught the second world war began in 41??

I am sure I read that somewhere whether its true or not I do not know. Hope none of the US bloggers take offence

Yes that does ring a bell Mitch.

As someone from the UK myself I certainly would like to collect the Pacific range, but I'm afraid once again it comes down to money, just can't afford everything I'd like to collect:(

Thanks Spartan always good to get a geography lesson.
I just meant that if Pacific Island ranges didnt sell or had already been done maybe a different aspect of the war in the Far East would work.
But tbh i'm not fussed either way.

Andy's point #5 is exactly my sentiment too and is how I approach my collection. Nice to see Mr. K&C being more prolific on our forum recently.

The priorty was given to defeat the nazis probably because of their ability to produce the a bomb. As for the last round of kc's pacific figures. They are quite beautiful and some of the best kc has made. They rank up there with the napoleonic kgl and that austrailian 8th army set. I myself am still waiting for d day fjs and a jagdtiger. And once again andy thanks for that beautiful opel maultier.

Good news on the facades.
Regarding the Pacific as George says we have been around and around on this subject.
As a dealer my experience was that it did not sell well when it was available. Given a choice the great majority of collectors have plenty to choose from in the European theatre which has a much better variety of uniforms and in particular vehicles.
Regards
Brett
