Hi Guys,

On the “German Tank Turret Number” thread Mr. Rutledge makes some excellent points and I have to say I agree with about 99% of them.

If I may differ on two small points…I still like to call my figures…”toy soldiers” and I do like to play with them!

Of course I know how much work goes into designing and manufacturing all of the many different kinds of military miniatures that are available to collectors today. But, and it’s a big BUT…making and enjoying these little figures (and vehicles and aircraft) takes me back to my childhood and the sheer, unadulterated pleasure of playing with my “toy soldiers”.

Of course today’s offerings are a world away in terms of detail…quality…and, of course, price. But (that word again) when I talk and correspond with collectors all over the world about K&C and why people collect the one word that comes up time and time again is…FUN! And for me and I think many others it’s the opportunity to reenter a world many of us left behind a long time ago.

As for “playing”…for me nothing beats getting one of my brother Gordon’s dioramas and setting up different figures in various scenarios…Then moving them about…Looking at them from different angles…Perhaps imagining a volley of rifle fire – a clash of swords – or the rattle of a machine gun. Now if that’s not “playing” I don’t know what is!

However you like to display your collection or think about it…just enjoy it and the pure pleasure of being a little boy again. Thanks again Mr. Rutledge and best wishes to one and all!

My "fun" is photographing and cataloging them - and using Photoshop to piece the images up to make a scene {sm4}

I did say "almost" no one, Andy. ^&grin

Of course you're correct: its about enjoying the figures/vehicles/planes - however one may do that. Its interesting to me that my grandmother Mimi had a huge toy dollhouse collection. They were about the same size as our "toy soldiers" are today. Wish I knew what happened to it, and whether my fascination with the miniature is perhaps genetic. Hmmmm.
