“Camel Blanket Bingo” (2 Viewers)

considering what has been painted these could have been knocked up by Andy or Gordon or, their kids in a few minutes!! Don't think the master painter would have had to be contacted

Mind, as has been said it will be interesting to hear what is more or, seemingly more popular the correct or the incorrect version
Mitch

Mitch,
Well you know that I might just have to do is buy the first three (A version) with the Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band blankets on the camels and put them into the showcase.^&grin But also now renew my order for many multiples of the B Version for a nice big Palestine Dio.
It matters now not to me which version sells better as long as the series sells well and expands into future releases. I think if you and Neil have problems with WW2 ranges then it may pay to email Andy, like I should have done in the first bloody place, and talk to him or maybe even better meet the man at a Show or K&C Dinner and find out for yourself what kind of a bloke he really is. I know all Aussies who have met Andy would agree with me.
Cheers Howard

Yes Howard, as we know some blokes are just 'glass half empty types', when it comes down to it it was put right and collectors now have a choice, I prefer the glass when it's half full. (with a tot of rum..:wink2:)
Wayne.

Howard..

Not really sure why meeting Andy would make any difference to the fact that on a number of WWII sets and other series there are things that are wrong. I am not really bothered if he is the nicest guy in the world or the worst. That sounds like well, he is a great chap so cut him some slack!!! Sorry, but, that's old and does not hold any water when the sets are as expensive as they are or, you state that you are replicating history. Just get the sets out correct and that's all he has to do.

I also think that this is a forum where we talk all things toy soldiers and, it may suit to say its whining etc but, a lot of people know their ''onions'' as the saying goes. Its also very helpful that people know what is accurate and what is not the right scale or not and so on. I get plenty of people contacting me who cannot get to a shop never mind a show who like the discussions on the sets. It may not be for you for rather obvious reasons and, I am sure people don't contact you with such issues but, that's the rich tapestry of a forum such as this.

In the scheme of things this is free quality control for the companies using the knowledge of others to test their sets whether they address these issues is down to the individual manufacturer some will and some won't. Keeping it private may only help those who wish it to be all rosy in the garden what's the point of the forum if you cannot speak about all things toy soldiers openly for fear of upsetting someone because its a mate.

I hope you enjoy both sets of releases
Mitch

Howard glad you got the blankets painted the correct way mate happy collecting :smile2:

Andy mate,
Well I'll be buttered on both sides. What can I say but many, many thanks. I have been kicking myself for the last two days now for being so negative.
Mates talk to each other, they don't shoot their bloody big mouths off on a Forum. I should have emailed you directly.
I just have too much on my plate at the moment with operations, funeral, wills, etc. and cannot wait to see the end of 2012. Still that is no excuse.
Say G'day to Helen and all the crew at K&C for me and accept my apology for being the biggest sheila in the Land of OZ.
The new Camel Corp guys look outstanding and I hope there are many more to come.
Once again many thanks, Cheers Howard

Howard:

I couldn’t help but smile when I read your post. I have been lucky enough to share a few pints with you so I know the kind of collector that you are. Anyone who has met you knows that you are one of the nicest people on this planet. Your even keeled approach to everything is evident the moment anyone meets you. I am sure Andy knew that you meant no harm in your other posts. We are all guilty of letting our passion for collecting get the best of us. Guys like you make this hobby what it is, your passion and love of all things toy soldier burns in all of us.

I'm curious, because of the quick turnaround were these two versions always in the pipeline or was the change simply a response to the disatisfaction of some customers? ^&confuse

CFM,
When you say quick turn around please note the only turnaround so far has involved painting over the
blankets on three figures which were probably already available in K&C HQ. Since Andy has master
painters based in his head quarters this was probably not that difficult to arrange on Monday morning and
then put the new images up several hours later.

The camels have been mentioned as coming for quite a while and a previous thread mid year showed
the unpainted prototypes. I knew they were coming for a long time before that. At no point had two
versions been mentioned and if they had I think you would find Howard would would have been one of
the few Andy might discuss such a thing with. I think the answer to your question is that Andy
responded to feedback and fortunately in this case the problem could easily be solved.

Andy has mentioned he will try to get the plain versions ready for release at the same time as the
coloured versions which is about a month from now. I do not know for sure but I would not be
surprised if this has just been a matter of adding some more to the current production with a slight
change. In this case the change was easy to do.

In answer to an email question from me Andy has replied
" Re “blankets”… If both types prove successful I see no reason to stop producing.
However any future camel figures would probably just have the “army-issue” ones".

My question was about if there is a second production run would all be re-run or just one version.
6 of the first 8 in the series are still going after three years and additional production runs have been
done as needed

Obviosuly I am getting feedback on this already. Some like the coloured versions even though they
know the plain colour is more accurate and are conflicted as to which to buy. Others just sticking with
plain and others mixing them. Two collectors today have told me they will buy all of them whereas
they were initially planning to buy just the first three.

Hope that helps.

Regards
Brett

Thanks for your input Military Workshop. I think the new camels are more than just a simple repaint, the blankets look differently sculpted/detailed ( albeit small alterations ) and that's why I wondered if they had been in the pipeline before. Nonetheless if as you say this is a response to the dissatisfaction of a few collectors then this is just another example of how K&C listens to us collectors and goes out of its way to please its clientele. I personally cannot think of any large businesses that have that level of spectacular customer service. Now if Northgate Woods and you band of Aussies have that level of sway with Andy could you please tell him I'm patiently waiting for a late war Pz.IV in ambush camo. {sm3} ;) ;)

Cheers CFM

CFM, mate the blankets are just a repaint and not a different sculpt or detail, as for any sway we Aussies have with Andy all I can say is I wish......

CFM,
Just a technical question before any Aussie lobbying for a late war Pz.IV in ambush camo. Were they
ever captured by Australians and then had Kangaroos painted on them ?

Unfortunately you are not the first this week to ask for Howard to use his "pull" to get something done. I have
already forwarded a request from some big "dude" in New Zealand who seems to want a Foreign Legion
band. No prizes for guessing who that may be and last I heard from him he had just come back from
looking for Hobbits !!

Next thing we know Howard will be setting up in an office next to Capitolron !!!

Regards
Brett

Apparently he had no luck finding the Hobbits but he did run into Gandalf while coming back from Mount Doom in Mordor. They hit it off that much that Gandalf promised to give him a ring...:rolleyes2:^&grin

CFM,
With reference to your comments about the blankets being differently sculpted and two versions pre planned this does not appear to be the case.

I have received the new Camel Corps figures and the B version is clearly the same sculpt as the original version.
Have taken a photo and sending to Waynepoo to hopefully put image up here. Green coloured area on left figure
is actually one paint surface and brown version has a fringe look but is same surface area. They do make it look different but the actual sculpt is clearly the same.

Thrilled with these LH mounted camel, thanks Brett & Andy, these will see me thru the Christmas period nicely. Looking forward to use them in a diorama soon. Just love this series and it's not just because I am an Aussie, but the fact they are a great series spanning an interesting time of WW1. Cheers, Robin.
