Dear All
We have had several requests for a fort and have finally taken steps to
getting a sample made. Although the sample attached is plaster rendered, we
are swaying towards a more natural overall stone finish. This would then
allow the fort (with some minor modifications) to be used for different
eras, from Medieval to WW2. The fort would probably be sold as a one piece
set to avoid gaps between the wall sections, however we are considering
selling the towers as separate items later on.
Obviously we would appreciate your thoughts especially on the colour scheme
and also on what else you think we could do to improve the fort, please feel
free to email me with any questions you may have. This is your chance to
have some serious input on a future project, dont hold back please!
A big thank you to Carlo who made this sample for us, your efforts were very
much appreciated!
Best wishes Vicki Lucas

it's beautiful...

I recognized it as Carlo's work immediately...

what are the dimensions please?

I am in, very useful little structure. The correct paint job will be it's making. :salute::Robin.

Hi All,

I am happy that Carlo has come up with a proposal that can span from Legion to WW2, Europe and Middle East.
My comments:
(1) Seriously consider making the fort in four blocks, 2 towers, and the 2 ' L ' shaped walls, the issue of the slit between the place they will join is minimum versus the opportunity you will give us collectors to purchase as many parts as we wish to either make the fort the size you have pictured as well as make it as large as we want!!! Give us that flexibilty.
(2) To have the fort as one solid piece of polystone ( or other material other than foam....pleaseee )will make it heavy and hard to ship the cost could be high.
(3) If we collectors are eventually running out of space, to store the fort in its 4 main pieces is much easier that the big block......
(4) The fort is too low. That is the walls are too low most likely a mounted soldier will not pass through the arched door???
(5) The gates could be an optional, personally I did not measure the inside of the marching grounds but I suspect that the two gate doors do not swing fully open....and if they do very limited space will be left for soldiers standing in the marching grounds.....One more reason for you to have the parts sold separately....those of us that want more marching ground can get ......
(6) Colour, I would go with the yellowish brick type that we have seen applied on the K&C Desert Village ( see pictures ). Stone grey is a no go because as I can see the wall is made of bricks and covered with plaster ( great choice ), with some wear and tear showing the bricks behind. That is perfect for if it were resembling stones we would limit the options to use in Europe only and on doing that missing all the rest including Crusaders, Spaniards Conquistadores, New México and the Texan War of Independence, FFL and WW1 and WW2 Western Desert Wars........
Well these are some of my comments.
Look forward to having been able to contribute as always in these great projects.
Cheers
Luiz

Yes like the idea of larger gate and have the option of adding duplicate tower corners/walls to expand the size if desired. Robin.

Thanks for your detailed comments guys, we are also looking at making a separate straight wall section so that the whole fort can be extended in both directions.

Fort too small, gate too low . Almost no inner court yard. Please do not sell in one block . Separate walls and towers are the best solution . Collectors do not care about a small gab between wall sections. (CORNER WALL AND STRAIGHT WALL SECTIONS PLEASE) Separate items will give collectors the opportunity to make the fort as big as they like. Also easier for shipping ;
Can't see this fort for use in WWII scenes , so colour the building in desert colours. Also these forts were built using local material, so irregular visible stonework I would prefer above the rectangular stone pattern. No stairs to get directly to the battlements( can't see no doors in the towers to get to the right side of the fort-).
That's my opinion, take it for what' it's worth.

Its around 35cm by 33cm at the moment, remember this is only a mock up and the size can be increased prior to production.

This is very small for 1/30 scale figures knowing a normal European village or city house in 1/30 scale is have the size of the fort !!!!

a bit small
think a large gate for horse or vehicule
modular system with separate wall section to make it bigger
but it is beautiful

please think low price....and and many pieces releases because it will have many success during a long time.

Pierre,
Could not better agree with you.....
In your honour here are some pics of my fort serving the Legion Entranger^&grin:salute:::salute::

I post this on 8/17

I was thinking, as for the FFL fort. You can do it as a module, walls, gate, tower , interlock , this way it keeps cost low , and build it to the size you like.
Hope fully you can make a tower to climb and dead FFL to go between the battlements

On some pieces, unwanted seams can ruin a piece and they should be hidden via a simple overlap element. On other pieces, there really isn't a problem. On these pieces, the seams do not appear to be a problem.

As for myself, I have a scratched built fort, so not going to need this piece, and will refrain from voting, but I will comment.

I can see both the benefits of having a solid single piece and the modular approach. The single piece is so easy on the collector. Nice, neat, very tight and solid, no tipping over and easy to display.

If you module the piece, you need to be very careful on the dimensions and make sure the various elements will end up in 90 degree angle meets. One of the towers will need to be modified to allow a wall connection. Right now, the timber supports on at least one of the towers would block a second wall piece from joining to the tower. Once you modular, call for barracks, storerooms and casements ......

I think it would be helpful if you placed 2 or 3 figures with the scale model just to illustrate size and scale.

I'm so mixed on this...

I do hate seams...

not sure if they intend for this to be resin or foam...

but...as foam has a tendency to shrink fractionally...

even a straight wall side loses a pinch here and there with that product...

could be a big seam...could be a little seam...

so...I would prefer resin...

but if it's a solid piece...it's almost impractical to ship...

this size would be okay...14x14 inches tops...no bigger...

but that is very small fort......it won't house many figures...

I mailed a 36x36 inch castle to California from Texas...

it was foam...very light weight...I remember is was over $300 because of the surcharge on the size...

I can't see any way around this not being modular...

I wonder if Carlo could incorporate an architectural design that would allow pieces to "slip" into each other hiding the modular piece's seams...

the debate of a modular or single unit piece can persist...
and maybe not everyone will be happy...
but nobody can dispute the fact that the building is ultra cool...

Carlo rules...that guy can build...
