1/30 scale Rumpler with pilots (2 Viewers)

I have three of the Gunn aviation figures, the Tropical/Luftwaffe trio. I bought them to display with my desert Me-109 models, and consider the pieces to be real prizes in their scale. Apart from the limited production run of this aircraft, the appearance of a new type associated with the Great War is all positive, IMO. Hopefully, this will be the first of several from TG.

Question: How many Fw-190 did Gunn manufacture?

Ivan,

I believe it was 100 of each. 100 of the Normandy version and 100 of the tropical/desert version.

Dear Treefroggers
We are only producing 10 Rumplers in this variant - there will be another 10 later on in different colours but that is it. This is an iconic wooden warbird and comes with the 2 crew featured, aeroplane stand and various ladders and chocks to make it look a very authentic piece.
Because its wood, its very strong and will have no problems being shipped anywhere in the world. There will be no problems that were associated with the FW190.
The price will be around the $450/$500 mark depending on what the factory quote us as an end product price.
As these are such a limited piece we will sell them on a first come first served basis. Theres a lead time of 6 months on this product hence the price and limited availability.
We have no idea if these aircraft will be popular and so will only make very limited numbers for serious collectors. If enough people sign up or pledge to buy them then we can look at increasing the numbers. However because of the time it takes to make these and the final price I cannot see these numbers ever rising above 20 total.
We plan to make other 2 seater aircraft from the WW1 era, some very cool looking WW2 planes going right the way thru to the Vietnam war. However we are talking next year before we see anything than than WW1 and there will only be one other WW1 aircraft this year maybe two at the most. This is a long term project for us and marks a great return for us to the aircraft market.
The pilots will be available as a separate set in April for those who dont want to buy the aircraft.
Kind Regards Vicki

Vicki thanks for all the information!

Hi,
Just did a rough calculation. If it is true 1:30 scale, then the wingspan will be approx 16.6 inches. One big bird!!

In light of the above explanation, 10 makes perfect sense so apologies for my earlier comment. If you look at K & C production going back several years when their wooden planes were more affordable than they are now, the amount of planes made was similar to what TG made. The price is also quite attractive.

I imagine these are being made in the Philippines.

As the owner of about a dozen wooden Warbirds I recommend they come with stands. Helps with room.

I also presume these are being sold directly by TG and not by dealers, which is the right approach. The fewer times these are shipped the better due to potential breakage issues.

K & C ships their wooden birds directly from their HK offices to the customer by Fed Ex overnight. It's a little more expensive but reduces the potential of breakage. I have never had one arrive broken.

Hi all. Been working on the ID of this aircraft type. It appears to be a Rumpler C.IV, which entered service in mid-1917. It was powered by a 260hp Mercedes D.IVa water-cooled in-line engine that gave it a top speed of 106mph at 1640 ft. It had a service ceiling of 21000 ft and a 3.5 hour endurance. The wing span was 41' 6 3/8 inches and a length of 27' 7 1/8 inches. Armament was the standard single forward firing Spandau and a ring mounted Parabellum for the observer. The recon camera was used by aiming through a trap door in the floor of rear cockpit. The plane could also carry 4 55lb. bombs for ground raids, on underwing racks. It stayed in service through the end of the war. This is the best ID I can make with the photos available. It looks very similar to the C.1 and even more similar to the C.III but I think the wing tip and horozontal stabilizer shapes, and the cockpit arrangement ID it as the C.IV. -- Al

This is a beautiful model, and being a hand-made wooden creation, is priced in a reasonable range for what it is. It is quite the creative choice for a first time entry in this market. The detail looks outstanding and the bracing and control wires especially so. I envy those of you that will be getting one of these and I am quite interested to see what the future holds for these TG aircraft. Nice job, TGM. -- Al

The first 10 Rumplers now all sold out, a second batch will follow later this year with 2 new pilots and a different colour scheme.
Thanks for all of those who bought from us, it enables us to follow on with some exciting subjects from other eras!
Best Wishes Vicki

Wow! That didn't take long. Glad to see them 'take off' so well. -- Al
