We have not had any naval talk in awhile nor have we seen the finished projects yet of members who were in the middle of building ships. These are my home made efforts of a year ago. Photos are of the USS Osage in front with a typical stern wheel tinclad in the rear. The heights of the ship work fine with the smallish 1/32 figures and I chose to shorten the ships to save some display room. Both ships were made without benefit of professional tools, using mostly ready to buy everyday craft and hardware items, lots of glue, paint and imagination...Michael

Nice work Michael! I am not able to see the navy figures clearly, who is the manufacturer?

I have Dorset figures as well as Imperial. Those shown are from Steadfast. The hats are more Victorian than ACW but I use them because they are cannon ready...Michael

I remember your build blog on these, Michael. I remember your boats, when I see some of the ones that are available commercially. I like yours better, because not only are they well done, but they're handmade by a true hobbyist. Thanks for showing them again, you've created a couple of works of toy soldier art.

Prost!
Brad

Very nice indeed. I have built large kit ships 1/350th and some 1/35th scale scnellboats but, there just follow the instructions stuff. Don't think I could do anything as good as this

Thanks for the comments..I had hoped some of the other members had finished their ship projects and joined in the conversation..Michael

Hehe, mine is still on my "Finish What You Started" projects list :D

Prost!

These vessels are great tabletop displays for Naval figures that can look "nekkid" with out a ship under them. I recognize a good use of a shower drain cover on the ironclad.

That's to go with a 4 " PVC coupling cut down for the turret. I have found it easier to use already fabricated everyday items to make it work for my craft stuff..Michael

I might use your idea for a "steam punk" tank turret.

Like this...? I have the most fun shopping in Loews or AC Moore when in create something mode. I check out shapes, tools, objects that speak to me about how I will use them. Michael

NICE! I want to build them with Union and Confederate markings.

Dusted off the old steamer today, ive posted some pictures but i do not know if there is any further work been done since i last posted pictures of the boat, i seem to be stuck on what to do with the rear upper deck, short on time and with wavering enthusiasm for the project i think i may finish it off with rough timber planking barracades with gun firing slots dotted about the place, and maybe drop down sections at the extreme rear for some sort of gun.

Most of the Sudan fleet would have massive canopies stretched over framing to protect against the heat...Here is a pic to show possible gun shield placements..Michael
