Hi All!
The images of the Spring 2008 collection are now up on Treefrog. Please take a moment and look at the new additions to existing ranges and the new Classic Gloss Petticoats range.
5 New Petticoats- Women's fashion figures to go with the popular Redcoats/Bluecoats, 10 new Matt Zulu War figures, 6 new ACW Cavalry, 2 Museum Collection Black Watch figures, 3 Redcoats Classic Gloss, 7 new Redcoats & Bluecoats in the French & Indian War and 3 new Ceremonial Collection figures.
We are well along the way with new items for the September collection including a band and new additions to almost every range.
We hope you enjoy the new additions!
All the best,
Ken Osen

Hi There!
I thought that some of you might like to see four of the new ACW Cavalry figures. These are just the first of a full range to compliment your Infantry!

Ken - Congrats on a job well done. The Union Cavalry are on my Christmas list.

Ken, Great Custer figure leading his Michigan Brigade. "Go you Wolverines!" :)

Since I have resigned myself to collecting the FIW range, I find myself at odds with my sets of 4 or 6 figure mentality...I lke soldiers in the classic marching poses ( officer, bugle/flag, other ranks) and the Britains single offering concept creates havoc with that..Some of the units have the start of making my own sets, but it would cost me $120 bucks to do so..Again I would like to suggest mini sets of 2 to 4 pieces for fillers...Otherwise, at least promise not to limit particular figures to single units..I love the new militia types, but want at least an officer or noncom as someone different for display of these unique units...Michael

There are some stunning pieces in the new releases Ken. There is even a figures there I was hoping you would make :D The mounted Kings Troop :D:D. Just one question though. I thought their horses were brown ???

As you already pointed out we have been adding Officers, NCOs, Ensigns and Music to some of the units and we will continue to do that in a paced manner. We are also working on some four figure boxed sets for a future release, but the feedback on the single figures has been very positive. There will be very little savings boxing multiples for the consumer at point of purchase...but we are moving ahead to test the waters.
Some subjects are a bit unusual and we really have to see what kind of sales there will be before we invest in additional new sculpts. I think we have ventured into several of these areas with this new supplement, but if sales support further development we could add more figures to create little vignettes.
Right now some of these new releases can be grouped to do this...the Native American Warrior can be used with the French Canadian Militiaman and the French Volontaires Estrangers or the French Compagnie d'Irelandais.
The Provincial Ranger can be used with the Provencial Independant Company Private while the British light Infantryman looks on.
I try to look at the entire range and consider what will support earlier releases while considering that we need to add interest and variety while we build the various ranges. The Fall supplement should flesh out a few more units in Redcoats and Bluecoats.
All the best, Ken

Thanks for the heads up. When Richard gets back into the office we will look into the horse colour.
Ken

Thanks for your input Ken, I for one appreciate all the hard work & effort you put into your figures and thank you for giving us sneek peaks and info of up coming releases.

I have found this picture of the RHA Kings Troop and it shows a couple different colours of horses.

...Just one question though. I thought their horses were brown ???
Actually most horses appearing brown are the more common horse color "bay", which covers a range of light to dark brown coat colors but all having black "points" (mane, tail, lower legs, eartips). In fact, the two stem horse colors are chestnut and black, the only two pigments existing in the horse. All other colors, including bay and brown, are created when one of these base colors has additional diluting or modifying genes. For example, a bay horse is a black horse with a gene that modifies the body to a some shade of brown (leaving the black points).

Browns are much less common that bays in most breeds and range from a brown body with 'mealy' (yellowish) or red soft points, usually called 'brown' to a very dark or black, with lighter areas, called seal brown. Chestnuts range through a light golden-red, light yellow, bright cherry to orange red and dark chocolate. All of these have light or the same color points, except liver chestnuts which have dark points.

True black horses do not have shades but there are two types: fading and nonfading. Nonfading black is also called raven or jet black that generally does not fade. Jet black horses are usually born charcoal or smokey colored, but rarely are black at birth. Nonfading horses have a metallic, bluish, or iridescent sheen and are born a bluish-black, charcoal, or black color. Fading black horses get reddish-tinged hairs or brown burned areas from sweat or sun.;)

From these more common colors are many variants, sometimes called "dilutes", which include greys, duns and patterned horses.

From what I can see of that photo, most of those horses are bays and blacks, with perhaps some dark chesnuts and browns or "seal" browns.

The FIW series continues to look great, I intend to keep collecting it. When you mention vignettes are action poses vignettes one of those possibilities? Or individual action poses? Or shall we just have classic marching poses?

Best wishes,
Paulo

Hi There!
They are pictured on the back of the new catalog as a pre-view for the Fall Collection. There will be a few aditional figures added to the four that you see.
Ken

Her is a sample vignette that has been created by using the Collectors Club 'Ready for Duty' set and the December event figure from London. There will be another figure added to this grouping this December.
With the addition of Petticoats and a few more non-parade figures you will be able to create more 'slice of life' vignettes. The VC and Zulu War series will have a few more action poses added too.
All the Best!
Ken

Ken: When you say the VC series -- do you mean the Crimean war series or the Indian Mutiny

Dick

Yes Dick,
We have had some discussions about adding to these ranges as single Redcoats, but in poses like we did for the Classic Gloss Zulu War range so far.
There is a part of me that would like to keep the 'high action' poses to the Matt ranges and stay within firing, advancing and drill poses for the short term. Much like we did with set #43126 Scots Fusiliers Firing Line set #1... both of these could have been single figure offerings like #43142 British Grenadier 45th Regt of Foot 1754-1763. This along with more casual poses should round things out a bit.
What do you think?
Ken
