2011 New York Toy Soldier Symposium (1 Viewer)

more gauls....funny to look at the Romans with the blue shields and read all the material that ACN has put out over the years in the decisions surrounding issuing the blue legion..... these figures are a testament to that quandry. Crimson red legions for me!!

I am REALLY embarrassed with the poor quality pics here guys. This is a mid 1990's papier mache release of the Roman fort that Louis has used for a NW Frontier set up. It is really something to behold. I thought the fort was one big piece but my wife showed me that it wasn't if I looked closely.

Richard and Louis. I am very jealous of the goodies being given here- Britains elite figures. Richard better be careful- that SABRE might strafe him!! lol!!! The KC Winter tiger is on display underneath it. Louis said the Sabre is perhaps his favorite jet fighter- hard to argue with that (though I preferred the F14!! )

Unfortunately, 2 dozen of my other pics didn't take!! GRRRRRRRR. Will see if I cannot retrieve them later on.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone involved for allowing those that couldn't make it to still "be there".

:salute::

You are so very welcome, Chris, and it was such a pleasure meeting you. I see from the photographs that you found your camera . . . I'm glad, because Meredith and I couldn't find it.

I will post a report and some photos of the great fun we had today at Mark Hoffman's wonderful collection in a few minutes after I get my kids put to bed.

Hey Louis, I see you have some First Legion guys to go along with your factory building, looks like a great set-up...Sammy

Okay, the kids are in bed. Time for the Sunday events report. First a big thankyou to Brad for taking the time to post the photos, despite the fact that circumstances conspired to make him miss his first Symposium.

As I am writing this, I am both elated by what was one of the most fun Symposium weekends ever, and depressed, as I always am, when such a great weekend is over and everyone has headed for home. But I digress . . . today's events:

We all met at Mark Hoffman's offices to view his amazing collection at 11:00 a.m. He served us a spread from Katz's Deli (made famous by the movie When Harry Met Sally), including Pastrami (the best sandwich I ever had - now I understand how Jews can survive without pork), Corned Beef and Turkey sandwiches, Knishes, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Pickles, etc. We all sat and listened as Ken and Richard educated us on the differences between hollow casting, spin casting and die casting. At Mark's request, Ken Osen selected various items from his collection and peopled the two dioramas Ken had presented Mark with from the two Symposia he had attended. We all checked out the new additions to Mark's incredible collection, including the Metal Shed WWI Train, a Figarti Custom B17F in the marking of RAF Coastal Command, his complete John Jenkins Designs collection, and several Lezinski pieces I had never seen before.

With the assistance of Doug Luna, I obtained four Lezinski Elephants (two pulling a large field gun and limber, and two carrying disassembled field guns on their backs) I had coveted since first seeing the same sets in Mark's collection.

After an amazing afternoon, Mark took Doug, Richard and myself down to the garage to see his "baby" - a Mercedes SLS Gullwing, my dream car. Thanks to Mark, I can now at least say i have sat in the driver seat and started one up.

The Doug, Richard Walker and myself, having thanked Mark and said our goodbyes to he and all the other attendees, went to the Wollenski Grill and Smith & Wolenski and had the traditional Symposium farewell dinner: the best Cheeseburgers in Manhattan. Doug told us stories about his experiences in Vietnam that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Finally, after one of the most fun weekends of my life, my new friend Richard, my old friend Doug and I hugged and said our farewells.

I guess now I start counting down the days to the Valley Forge Show, when I will see Richard, Ken, Erika, Tom Dubel, Hans, Brad, Chris, Mark and the rest of my friends who will be attending again.

I want to extend a special thanks to Ken, Erika and Richard for taking the time, effort and expense to join us and help make the weekend so special. I took a bunch of photos of the days events and Mark's collection, and I will forward them to Brad with a polite request that he post them on this thread.:smile2:

Guten tag from Zurich, mein herr.

Terry, thanks for posting.

Louis, like you and everybody had a fanatastic time.

First, thank you Terry for posting the Sunday photographs.

Brad,

We all had a great time, but you were missed, as was Hans, Tom, Tim, Clive, Kevin, Andy, Gordon and John Jenkins. It was such a fun weekend. Making friends with Richard Walker, whose sense of humor that fit our group like a glove, and Currahee Chris, as good a guy as you could ever meet, was fantastic, as was getting to spend time with old friends I only see once or twice a year, like Doug, Ken and Erika.

If it wasn't for the fact that I will be getting to see many of you who made or missed the Symposium at Valley Forge in April, I would be sad that it is over, but we all have a lot of fun to look forward to in just a few weeks . . . :wink2:

Thank you Louis along with Ericka, Brad, Chris and Terry for sharing the weekend with your photos an tales of the event it was like being there.............Joe
