The show will be on Sunday, April 29th from 10-3PM. At the Gettysburg Hotel on the main square.

I may actually get to go this year, since he didn't schedule it for the Sunday after our show.

Prost!

I'm coming this year! It will be my first trip to Gettysburg. I made my hotel reservations this morning. With some help from Tim Tyler, I am trying to arrange a horseback tour of the battlefield for Saturday. I also hope to visit the Toy Soldier shops in Gettysburg Saturday, and attend the show on Sunday.

Louis: My son and I will be there the 2nd week of May. Please let us know the details of the horseback ride of the battlefield if you get it set up. Totally neat idea!

Tommy, here are the two Recommended Horseback Guided Tours:
Artillery Ridge – 717-334-1288
Hickory Hollow Farm – 717-334-0349 or 717-253-6300

Unfortunately they were both booked up on the 28th, so I am doing a guided tour with a guide in my car.

Just a suggestion..there is a 2 plus hour double decker bus tour with a battle representation for the appropriate event location. It is well done and each seat has headphones for the presentation..I have done this multiple times and it never grows old..Michael

I like the guide in the car the best. Its one-on-one and you can ask a lot of questions. We went there last summer and when I got home I read the "Killer Angels" again and got a much better understanding of the ebb and flow of the battle. Louis, you're going to love it. You would be amazed at how much open ground the Rebs had to cover in Pickett's charge. On a side note, they had a much better museum before, with rows and rows of rifles, pistols and swords. Now its a select few.

I agree. My wife and I had a guided auto tour on March 31. It was our second trip to Gettysburg and this guided tour really helped with getting oriented with the timeline and locations of the battlefield over the three days of the battle . This tour will greatly increase my understanding and pleasure with future reading about the battle .

The weather has been hit and miss here the last week. Looks as though that will continue into this weekend with some rain and cool temps. Anyone coming for the first time to tour the battlefield should consider hiring a guide at the visitor's center. Unless you have a detailed knowledge of the battle it's the only way to go. A new thing for the more adventurous is the segway tours of the battlefield: http://www.segtours.com/

Toy solider shops: Tarbox Toy Soliders on Steinwehr (Charlie is a great guy to talk with), the Antique Center on Baltimore Street (the biggest selection and a lot of other interesting and bizarre items - get your glass eye); John Zabawa's shop (another good guy).

Places to eat - nothing spectacular but Dobbin House, O'Rorkes (irish), Cafe Saint Amand (french).

Coffee shop - Ragged Edge (for the hipsters).

I think they have free parking for the show on Sunday in the parking garage behind the hotel. It's a bit hard to see as the entry is through an alleyway. The Wills House where Lincoln spent the night is directly across the street from the hotel. They recently opened it for tourists.

Thanks for the parking info.

I have been to gettysburg many times, but never made it to this show yet. Maybe I'll make it this Sunday.

Hope cameras are brought along and photos taken of the show along with others for you to share with us.............The Lt.

My family and I had a wonderful time in Gettysburg this weekend. My son and I had an unbelievably informative tour of the battlefield Saturday afternoon, while my wife and daughter had spa treatments in town. I took my son to his first three brick and mortar Toy Soldier Shops after the tour, the first being Tarbox Miniatures, where Charlie, the proprietor, generously tried to give my son a K&C Saracen Camel Mounted Standard Bearer figure -I literally had to throw the money on the counter and run out to make him take it. We also visited Gettysburg Toy Soldiers - where my son got a set of Civil War cavalrymen jumping over a stone fence, and I picked up a Trophy Waterloo Gordon Highlander Standard Bearer, in mint condition, for $29!^&cool

We had dinner at the Dobbins House with Tim Tyler Saturday night, and lunch at the Pub on the town square with Tim Tyler, Tom Dubel, his son Logan and father-in-law, as well as two collector friends of Tim, Clay and his father-in-law. We had a wonderful time.

At the show someone beat me to two Honour Bound Shermans and an Honour Bound Ambush Jagpanther at $150 each, but, as a consolation, one of the dealers told me he had a Heco Tinplate French 75 and limber, and upon receipt of photographs of it, I hope to add it to my collection. I got to see Nick, George Guerriero, Carl Hoegermeyer, and Harold Jones at the show as well. All in all we had a fantastic time, and I look forward to my next visit to Gettysburg.

Louis summed it up well, show was small, but the Company was fantastic! Gettysburg is a terrific town and if you have a chance to go, go....I am fortunate being within 45 min, I make many periodic trips up to the area!

Attendance seemed very light at the show this year. I actually thought I was at the wrong place because it was so quiet in the lobby. Not much to report. This show could use more publicity. With all the local military art galleries, bookstores, and antique stores, it could offer a whole lot more than it does. But I doubt any of the locals feel a need to participate. And having the show on Sunday is a bit odd. I probably wouldn't even attend except I picked up an item from George.

If it's the show I'm thinking of, its promoters try to hold it on the day after the MFCA show, since many vendors and collectors are in the area Friday and Saturday.

Prost!
