2013 Tour de France (2 Viewers)

When I watch the Tour, it's amazing to me how the crowd gets so close to the riders. I can't say I've watched races in the USA but I have to think that with security being what it is in this country, that wouldn't fly. In the second stage in Corsica, there was a little dog that ran into the road as the riders were approaching and only got out of the way at the last second. It could have been a disaster.

Yeah I saw that little dog, he was lucky! They do indeed get so close to the riders at some points don't they , it must be very annoying and distracting. They also look a slightly eccentric group of supporters don't they, running along side in their underpants or dressed as a Viking or Wonder Woman, yelling blue murder. Its either the thin air up there or the local liquid refreshment:salute::

After seeing the Team Time Trial in Nice last week,

I found this historical photo from the 1940 Tour de France.

It shows the German Time Trial Team racing along the roads into Paris.

That year they won all of the jerseys and took 1st, 2nd and 3rd postion on the podium on The Avenue des Champs-Élysées :)

{sm4} Excellent pic John, they are clearly closing down on the leader here, however the result was overturned as they all tested positive for Knockwurst!

What made the time trial worth watching yesterday was being able to see Mont San Michel. One of the more spectacular views there is.

Yes Brad, That is beautiful..I believe if I remember correctly that is where the road is partially covered by tidal waters each day. It looks like Marcel Kittel is the new king of the sprint finish with the way he went around Cavendish yesterday...very few people are capable of doing that.....Looks like Froome will win this Tour with over 3 mins in hand he should have no problem as long as he avoids crashes.... The Alps are next and Contador is too far behind already.....Wish that it was a little more competitve at this point this year for the yellow.....but i don't think anyone will even seriously challenge Chris Froome.

Excellent Post^&grin^&grin^&grin

The Saxo team made a major input into Froome's time today and what the heck was Sagan doing: looking back while Cavendish was blowing past him.

Sky team is looking shaky, what with being down two riders.

Tomorrow will be an important mountain stage culminating in the much feared Mount Ventoux....I don't think that we will see much of the sprinters^&grin

Well done Chris Froome:salute:: Man that looked hard today!{eek3}

Ha ha! - they went even quicker going through Holland on "Bicycle day" ( as Dutch people called it) - when they nicked anything with wheels on ,in order to get back to Germany, ( September 1944). I have a Dutch friend - who remembers it well. They were young boys at the time - and lined the roads to watch as the Jerries sped by - and cheered them on - until some dismounted and pointed rifles at them. Then they scarpered!!:D

Yes, It is amazing how quickly some of these cyclists can climb hills...fantastic conditioning and favorable strength to weight ratios....hopefully that's all...:wink2:

It was quite a victory by Froome: he laid the hammer down.

That's all???? mmmm we need to wait around 10 years to be sure( lets hope its clean).

Here is an article about the fans' involvement in the Tour,

I'm always amazed by the enthusiasm of the fans, particularly those who run alongside. The Tour on this past Thursday was incredible. The fans were crowding the road so much that it seemed as if the cyclists had almost no room to move. Certainly there was no room to pass. That's part of what makes the Tour unique: the fans.

Too bad it comes to the end tomorrow :(

Great win by Quintana. He wins the White Jersey, King of the Mountain and finishes in Second Place overall and a place on the Podium with Chris Froome and Rodriguez.

All of Colombia must be ecstatic!

Not bad for your first TDF^&grin

I just found out from speaking to some people in Bogota that today is Colombian Independence Day, so a double reason for people to celebrate Nairo's victory today.

Congrats to today's winner, hard earned victory:salute::

Surely this will be the first time two Brits have won the TDF on the trot!^&cool
