Thanks, George. There is nothing to say. They had their chances as they left 13 men on base, had Turner thrown out at home in the first. It was just typical DC professional sports playoff karma (Redskins, Capitals, and Nationals) as we can't get out of our own way. -- AlTough loss Al, what can you say at this point.
That overturn with replay on the pick off was utter BS, I saw nothing from either angle that was conclusive.
Maddon the genius my ***.....................
Good one. I think I'll be better off drinking when they win. Lot less damage in that scenario. :wink2: -- AlIf you ever wanted to start, this would be a perfect opportunity ^&grin
Dodgers must be licking their lips as the Cubs used practically every pitcher.

A hard fought game, with no one giving an inch, but the Nats playoff jinx continues as they lose 9-8. They have no one to blame but themselves. Nats had 14 hits and 9 walks, plenty of chances, but they left 13 men on base and lost 2 men on the basepaths. This one is going to cause nightmares all winter, but we Nats fans are getting used to nightmares.:rolleyes2: -- Al
Thanks, Jason. It was a truly tough game to watch, wondering what was going to go wrong next. -- AlAl:
Sorry.
There are 7 ways to reach first base in Major League Baseball and the Cubs reached base on 5 of them in one inning! While the plays and players matter the most you can't accomplish that without some luck. I know that is little consolation. That was a truly tough loss.

Thanks Al. :smile2: I have to tell you, this is the most I've ever enjoyed a Yankees post-season, because, rightfully, as a young unproven team that was "rebuilding," they are the underdogs. Their over-under in Vegas was 82 games this season. Its like having your NFL team picked to go 8-8, instead going 11-5, winning the wildcard and divisional playoff games, and finding themselves in the NFC or AFC Championship Game. I have genuinely got so much more out of this season than I ever expected that I am just enjoying the ride.^&cool^&cool
10 years ago on October 4th, in the delivery room as my daughter Ashley was born, in the background and the periphery of my consciousness, the "gnat game," when Joba Chamberlain blew a lead against these same Cleveland Indians, because he was being swarmed by gnats, was playing. I remember ridiculously being almost as stressed about the game as I was concerned for my wife and daughter until my daughter was safely born. That moment put sports in perspective for me. As George pointed out, its just a game, win or lose (unless you foolishly bet more than you can afford) it has absolutely no effect on your life. This post-season I am just enjoying myself, not getting all wound up about the games, and it has been relaxing rather than stressful. It only took half-a-century, but I finally think I have sports, at least, in perspective.{sm4}
Sorry to see your Nats lose that one Al, hopefully they can find a solution to their bullpen issues and keep that team together as they are a solid group and just need a little tweak here and there to make it to the WS.Well, my Nats lost and that fact leaves me with only one rooting possibility, the NY Yankees, an old favorite from my youth. I will be pulling for an LA/NY faceoff as the other possibilities leave me cold. So, come on Yankees, channel the Babe, the Mick, the Iron Horse, Whitey, and the rest and give me a reason to watch the World Series. -- Al
Thanks, Sammy. I think the bullpen will be alright. Last night's loss was more of a complete systems failure. Nothing went right, no one played real well, and ultimately, the Cubs sucked less than the Nats. -- AlSorry to see your Nats lose that one Al, hopefully they can find a solution to their bullpen issues and keep that team together as they are a solid group and just need a little tweak here and there to make it to the WS.
After one round of playoffs, we're down to three; Doug, Carlos and last but not least, good old "I'm just happy to be here" Louis.
During the regular season, we lost Brad, Jason and Sammy, then in round one, we lost Al and myself.
Al is back though as he's a MFY fan from his yewt.
Good luck everyone (even you Louis)......................
Excellent point about the length of games. I am a die-hard baseball fan but I have my limits in terms of time committed to watching a particular game. The Game 5 between the Nats and Cubs was a regulation 9 inning game but took over 4 1/2 hours to play. To me it became a real effort to stay involved, even as close and important as the game was. It was just too long, even though my team was involved in a fight to the death. About 3 hours in I had had enough and while not turning the game off I did start to read a book while play continued, looking up now and then. When a well pitched and played game like last night's game that has a score like 2-1 takes 3+ hours to play, MLB has a problem. When a die-hard fan like me starts looking for other things to do during a game, especially during a deciding playoff game, MLB has a really big problem. Pace of play MUST be improved by whatever means necessary. Do away with the idiot review policy, put a clock on pitchers, batters, whatever, just get the game moving. Please. -- AlJason and I were never in it {eek3} but we hope for better things next year. If the Twins can rebound from an awful season, maybe ours can too.
Looking at last night's game, it was well pitched all around but still took 3:20. MLB has to find a way to shorten these games.
Should have been a Hr just because of perfect placement.:wink2:^&grin -- AlTake that Jeffrey Maier!
Somewhere Tony Tarasco is smiling.
