2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

For some reason I have been following the stories about Girardi and Farrell possibly being replaced. I just do not understand it?

Farrell is history. One WS title and two Eastern Division titles aren't what they used to be. That being said, although I don't see that many Red Sox games, he never gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling as a manager. When he was recovering from cancer, the team seemed more dynamic under the interim manager (Lovullo, I believe).

You first thought is mine exactly; three division titles, one WS win and he's out.

Ok then.

Fans here are doing handstands over it.

We'll see who they bring in to replace him; as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for..................

Why was he disliked by fans? The usual reasons?

People felt like he made a lot of boneheaded in game moves; case in point Monday. Sale went one inning too many and gave up the tying HR, Kimbrel came in one inning too soon and gave up two more runs.

Reed in the 8th, Kimbrel in the 9th, this isn't rocket science.........................

Every team and their fans wants to win the World Series. However, just because you don't win it doesn't mean you need to fire your manager. If that was the case, at the end of each season there would be 29 managerial openings.

If the present score holds up, I don’t think Girardi will need to worry about his future with the Yankees.

Great game by Strasburg, another 8th inning uprising, and the Nats get a Game 5 in DC. Been some really well-pitched games in this series. Glad to see Strasburg finally got some support. He has pitched in 3 post-season games in his career, has gone 1-2, but has only given up 1 earned run in his 19 innings. Nats can't ask for a better shot than a home game in the deciding game, so we'll see if they can get over their playoff jinx tomorrow. -- Al

Looks like George was right! The Baby Bombers got their miracle! I don’t care what happens against Houston, I am playing with house money! I just hope the Baby Bombers have a win or two left in them this season.

Congrats to Louis and his Yankees heading to the ALCS, got to admit never saw that one coming, at least the East has a rep. still playing.

Way to go Louis, all you wanted was to win the WC game.

Then all you wanted was to win one game vs the Indians.

Now all you want is to win a game (or two) vs the Astros.

Then you'll say all you want is to win a game in the WS.

Then next thing you know, you'll be posting pictures of you and your kid in the canyon of heroes celebrating the MFY's 256th WS title.

Awesome.

The AAstros have no shot; it's a lead pipe lock, the MFY's will be in the WS.

Man oh man did the Indians **** themselves; that's SIX strait losses in series clinching games.

Kluber was awful in this series.

The lost to a guy named Didi.

Unreal.

Congratulations, Louis. NYY's have had a spectacular year and now they are back where they belong. I will be rooting for them. Super Kluber laid an egg (or several, actually) as once again it has been proved that the regular season has no relation to the playoffs. Cleveland was one of the best fielding teams this year but playoff pressure rules and the Indians committed 9 errors in the 5 games. Same thing with the Cubs, who have committed 8 errors in 4 games. Playoff pressure, catch it. -- Al

Strasburg seems to have answered how he would perform in the post-season, having allowed 0 earned runs in his 14 innings over 2 starts in this post-season. It is a continuation of how he has been pitching since July 17. Since that date, and including the 2 playoff starts, Harper has started 12 games and pitched 76.2 innings. Not remarkable in itself, but what is noteworthy is that over that span he has allowed only 6 Earned Runs for an ERA of 0.71. He has allowed only 43 hits (2 Hr's, but none over the last 9 games/61.2 innings) and has struck out 98 batters. He is 7-2 over the stretch and in the 2 losses the Nats scored 1 run, total. As a Nats fan, I can only hope the Nats can advance to the pennant series and give Strasburg some more starts, and a chance to win the pennant and get to the World Series. If none of that comes to pass, it sure isn't Strasburg's fault as he has proved to be one of MLB's elite pitchers in the last 3 months. -- Al

I find it comical to hear and read about how the MFY's are now some plucky band of underdogs.

Really?

They traded away 10 prospects for Gray, Robertson (a guy who they traded away, got a very good haul for, then he comes back and is lights out) and Frazier, plus they have two back of the bullpen guys who combined make about 30 million.

They ain't the plucky Royals with a 50 million dollar payroll, so stop with the nonsense.

If Fatso and the ex Kamikaze pilot give them 5 or 6 innings per start (and it looks like fatso is off of whatever diet he was on, did you see the size of the divot that whale created in the infield on that popped up bunt), that's all they need.

And I also find it curious how Didi Mantle couldn't hit his weight throughout his entire career, then lands in NY and is hitting bombs everywhere; oh wait, he was on the team when Aroid was............nevermind, riddle solved. Loved the way that nitwit on the post game show flashed his WS ring; Ortiz should have flashed his THREE.

The Astros will **** themselves just like the Indians did; that was nothing short of a massive choke job, 102 wins and all they needed was 1 out of 3 and they soiled themselves, not to mention like Al said all the errors they committed.

The MFY's are on their way to the WS; that 5 year run I predicted they'd go on has started a year sooner than I thought.

Lucky me.

At least I'll get to see Quasimodo flail away hopelessly for another couple of series; why ANYONE would throw him a fastball is beyond me.

ALL RISE!! my ***.

Thanks Al. :smile2: I have to tell you, this is the most I've ever enjoyed a Yankees post-season, because, rightfully, as a young unproven team that was "rebuilding," they are the underdogs. Their over-under in Vegas was 82 games this season. Its like having your NFL team picked to go 8-8, instead going 11-5, winning the wildcard and divisional playoff games, and finding themselves in the NFC or AFC Championship Game. I have genuinely got so much more out of this season than I ever expected that I am just enjoying the ride.^&cool^&cool

10 years ago on October 4th, in the delivery room as my daughter Ashley was born, in the background and the periphery of my consciousness, the "gnat game," when Joba Chamberlain blew a lead against these same Cleveland Indians, because he was being swarmed by gnats, was playing. I remember ridiculously being almost as stressed about the game as I was concerned for my wife and daughter until my daughter was safely born. That moment put sports in perspective for me. As George pointed out, its just a game, win or lose (unless you foolishly bet more than you can afford) it has absolutely no effect on your life. This post-season I am just enjoying myself, not getting all wound up about the games, and it has been relaxing rather than stressful. It only took half-a-century, but I finally think I have sports, at least, in perspective.{sm4}

George, you are freakin' hysterical, my friend!{sm4} Don't worry, your Sox are also loaded with young talent, I'm sure they will be spoiling post seasons for me in the next few years just like they did in 2004 . . . {sm2}

My god, talk about soiling yourself, the 2004 Yankees needed diapers!

I, for one, am not ready to jump -- as if I ever would -- on the Yankees bandwagon. Cleveland played poorly in this series. It should have a four games series but for Girardi's mistakes; even the best make mistakes and he, Francona and the Cubs manager are the best in the game.

Houston played very well down the stretch and have continued that in the postseason. There is no reason to think that will change. I see the Astros winning in six.

I think today is the day. The games have been tight and the Nats are playing at home, so advantage Nats. The Cubs are tenacious but this is not the same team as last year; something is missing. In addition, assuming you discount 1981 when they were the Expos, they have lost series in even numbered years so today just has to be different!
