2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

5-0 MFY's.

Looks like it's on to game 5, I guess Girardi's a shoe in for Manager of the year now, right Louis?

No Encarnacion is a killer, out with a fluke injury.

So happy for the MFY's, such a hard luck snake bit organization, they never catch a break, nice to see then finally get one.

Imagine if it's Cubs/MFY's in the WS.........................I must have done something in a previous life that pissed off the MLB Gods.

If the choice is Cubs Yanks or Cubs Astros, I will take Cubs Yankees any day. Just imagine Arizona Houston or Arizona Cleveland, only diehards would watch.

Short of a rematch from last year, Dodgers Yanks would be ideal.

If it was AAAstros/Cubs, I'd watch to see as it would be the first ever appearance in the WS for the AAAstros, would be great to see them win it all, especially after what that city went through this year..................

It would be their second appearance; they were shut out by the White Sox in 2003. Their star that year was Beltran, a loaner whom they acquired from KC before he moved onto a big payday with the Mets.

My cup runneth over! The Yankees hand Cleveland it’s its first back to back losses in 46 games, the Baby Bombers get their third playoff victory and I get one more game to enjoy. Whatever happens in Cleveland I got a lot more out of this season then I hoped for. Sorry this upsets you so much George, but I’m sure you’ll get to celebrate the end of the Yankees season Wednesday.

2005 actually, the MFY's lost the 2003 to the powerhouse Marlins................(insert your laugh track here).....................

Why would you assume the MFY's are going to lose; momentum is a huge thing in sports and they have it all right now, Cleveland gonna Cleveland, they won 900 games in a row in the regular season beating up on tomato cans in the AL Central, now they are playing a team of mashers who sit on fastballs and rake.

Plus they lit Kluber up the last time they played them, Cleveland is super tight right now, the MFY's are loose and playing with house money.

If I was a betting man, I'd lay money on the MFY's..............and if Wednesday is YED, then so be it.

Momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher.

— Earl Weaver

Girardi is going with Sherman Klump on a short leash, then Gray, then he'll empty out the pen, throw Tanaka in there too, why not, you've got nothing to lose..........................

As they say, all hands on deck. The Indians have not played that well in this series so the Yankees could win. On the other hand, the Astros and Dodgers (at least so far) have played almost perfectly and will be favored.

Dodgers move on. They will be favored against their next opponent.

There’s a definite advantage in being out on the West Coast. You can watch the “late” game because it’s not so late :wink2:

One word: Kluber. I can’t see him laying an egg two starts in a row. If he is on the Yankees aren’t scoring any early runs, and Sherman Klump generally has at least one bad inning in him. But I suppose miracles do happen, and if so, the Yankees willl have again exceeded my expectations. It’s all gravy at this point.

That's the beauty of sports; anything can happen. In 1999, the Red Sox were down 2-0 to the Indians, won the next two at home, then in game 5, Saberhagen got hammered and it looked like they were toast, then Pedro came out of the bullpen and in one of the greatest post season performances ever, shut down the Indians the rest of the way.

In 2007 they were down 3-1 to the Indians, then Beckett pitched the game of his life in game 5, they won, came home and won the next two and they went on to win the WS.

You have a young team, then are feeling zero pressure, the Indians are feeling a **** ton of pressure. It's in the DNA of the Indians to blow series they should win, all the way back to the 1950's, while the Yankees have won 27 WS (or is it 270, I always forget the number), so you have history on your side as well.

Good luck tomorrow, will be fun to watch.

I bust your NY sports balls all the time, but you're good natured about it (as you should be as it's sports, not life or death), wishing you all the best in the game.

Regardless, the future looks bright in NY for the Yankees; the Giants are a different story, but we'll save that for another day..............;)..................

Yea...nothing like a NFL game or the first pitch with your bacon and eggs when the "early" games come on at 10 A.M. ^&grin

Thanks George. As always you are a stand up guy. I agree that the Giants are in for a horrible season, but I expected that, and frankly, I hope it is a complete debacle, so that we finally get rid of Jerry Reese, get a competent GM, and present him with the opportunity to make one of the top 5 picks in the draft. A good GM could have this team contending next year by drafting and/or signing two quality tackles. Put Pugh and Flowers at right and left guard, with Westin Richberg at center, and two quality tackles, the offensive line is a strength rather than a weakness, and the offense works. Get the defense healthy, and let them only be on the field for 50% of the time, instead of two-thirds of the time as they have been this year, and next year, we could be a legitimate playoff contender.

I saw an article in yesterday’s New York Daily News by Gary Myers, suggesting that the Giants play Eli five more games so he can pass his brother in most consecutive starts and then sit him down and play the rookie Davis Webb to evaluate his ability to succeed Eli in the future.

Not that I wish this on anyone (although my son hope his Niners lose every game) but the Giants might be joining the Niners and Browns in the Suck for Sam sweepstakes.

As usual, George hits the nail on the head. A team can't win if it doesn't hit and score. In 3 games the Nats have 11 total hits and 4 of those hits came in the 8th inning of the their win in Game 2. That means they have 7 hits over the other 26 innings, and 1 run scored in those innings. Nats are lucky to even be in this series at this point as the Cubs have had only that one bad inning. Now it's up to the Nats most inconsistent starter, Roark, to try to salvage a win and get this series back to DC and Strasburg. That is asking too much if the offense stays in hibernation. How bad does your offense have to be to waste 2 starts that took no-hitters into the 6th and 7th innings? -- Al
In addition to our offensive woes, now we have Baker doing his best imitation of Girardi/Sabathia as he yanked Scherzer after 6.1 innings of no-hit ball after Scherzer gave up his one hit. None of the succeeding pitching moves worked out as the LHP brought in to replace Scherzer yielded back to back singles to Cubs LH batters. Then Dusty let another LHP face a hot hitting Rizzo instead of giving him a pass in order to get at a cold-hitting Contreras with our best RHP, Maddon. Result was Rizzo getting the game-winning hit. Baker is facing a lot of heat for these pitching decisions. Leaves me wondering why Nat's managers don't trust their ace starting pitchers as we have seen this act before in 2014 when Matt Williams yanked a cruising Zimmermann and ended up losing a crucial game in extra innings. Sometimes managers just can't resist outsmarting themselves. The Nats have no one to blame but themselves for the position they now find themselves in. -- Al

He pulled Scherzer but the relievers did a fine job and it took a bloop to beat them so I find all the comments about the pitching odd. Now, if the pen had been torched, I would understand the comments. The Nats problem is that the Cubs pitching is throttling the Nats hitting (other than game 2). If they don’t hit, they’re not going to win, simple as that.

The problem was the pitcher that replaced Scherzer, LHP Solis, faced 2 LH batters and gave up hits to both of them, tying the game, so he most definitely did not do his job. Not Baker's fault, but Scherzer was still capable, thus the questions. And you are spot on about the offense, no hits, no runs, you lose the game. Now the Nats must win with their #4 starter and an iffy offense. I don't like the odds. -- Al

For some reason I have been following the stories about Girardi and Farrell possibly being replaced. I just do not understand it?
