2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (4 Viewers)

The SF Giants and St. Louis Cards are the finalists in the Stanton sweepstakes. It's a done deal with only the final decision of Stanton on which team he oks the deal with. -- Al

Ohtani indicated he wanted to go to a small market West Coast team so he will be signing with the Mariners.

Stanton, as of now, has refused to waive his no trade clause to the Cardinals.

Teams still in the Ohtani race: Angels, Mariners, Dodgers, SFGiants, Cubs, Padres and Rangers.

The 'you've got to be kidding' story of the day...Former O's 1st baseman Rafael Palmeiro is considering a comeback. He is 53 years old and last played in 2005. Apparently the steroids have affected his sense of reality. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I look forward to him coming back with the LET'S GO O'S!! and hitting 57 home runs..............

Apparently he switched from steroids to acid as his drug of choice . . . {sm2}

I see the Cubs have signed RHP Tyler Chatwood who had a bad year with the Rockies, 8-15 with a 4.69 ERA, for 3 years and $38 mil. Maybe the Cubs will swoop in and grab the O's LHP Wade Miley who amassed a similar record of 8-15 with a 5.61 ERA. They can probably get him for $40 mil or so. Cubs should move fast to bring this pair of aces together.:rolleyes2: {eek3} -- Al

I saw that signing and said to myself, "Who is Tyler Chatwood?" I still don't know who he is but I am glad that the Giants didn't sign him!

Stanton is refusing to approve a trade to the Giants or Cardinals, instead preferring to hold out for the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Yankees to become a serious player.

Brad, congratulations on the Angels getting Ohtani. Hope he is the big difference maker he is made out to be. -- Al

Thanks Al. My son didn’t believe me when I told him. Their odds of winning the WS went from 50-1 to 30-1.

On the Stanton front, the Cards dropped out. Apparently, Stanton wants the Yankees and like teams to get involved. It sounds like it’s a money thing but he’s already taking tons of money.

Interesting that he went to an AL team as they have the DH. I wonder if he will hit when he pitches?

Word here in the Bay Area is that the Giants were considered a serious contender for Stanton because they were one of the few teams willing to take on his entire salary. That makes sense since they really do not have much in the way of young talent to trade, but they do have money to spend.

That should have said "making" instead of "taking." I suspect he has mentioned the Yankees (as well as the Astros) because he wants to be part of a guaranteed winner. However, as we know there are no guarantees in life.

Color Louis happy :) and George not  as Stanton is now a Yankee.
George is not the only one that is not happy. As a fan that holds duel citizenship with the Nats and O's and who has thus seen what Stanton can do for several seasons now, I was hoping that Stanton would not end up in the AL East because he will just make the O's a probable 'also ran' for many years. The NYY's have gotten a one-man wrecking crew to add to a line-up that hardly needed it. Good for the NYY's, bad for the rest of the AL East. -- Al

On the upside of the Stanton signing, I would think this eliminates NY as a possible landing spot for Harper when he goes FA after 2018. Harper may be more inclined to stay in DC (probable wishful thinking on my part) with NY shut off, but he still might flee to LA or some other well-heeled west coast team. I don't see how NYY's could possibly afford what Harper will get on the FA market after taking on Stanton's billion dollar contract...fingers crossed. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Al,

Forgot to include the Os. Might as well throw in the Jays and Rays too.

Looks like a salary dump as the Marlins receive Castro (no, not Raul) and two prospects who are not supposed to be top prospects. Marlins have now traded two of their stars.

If the Marlins had to cut payroll, why did this group buy the Marlins if they can’t afford to run a major league team. Jorge Mas would have been a better choice. Glad I’m not a Marlins fan.

I didn't know they moved New York to the West Coast; I need to get on that internet.

Jeter the ex MFY is a part owner of the Marlins, so he lands in New York.

Nothing to see here, everyone just move along.

1.) Small market team idiot GM signs a player to a moronic salary.
2.) Team finds out now they can't pay anyone else.
3.) Team also finds out one man can't carry a team.
4.) Said team unloads the player to the MFY's for .10 cents on the dollar.

Rinse, lather, repeat.

So much for "Oh gee, it's so much to root for these plucky baby bombers"..........right Louis, can't wait to hear you blow smoke up all our rear ends as you try to explain away the MFY's doing what they do best, buy WS titles.

Their farm system is absolutely loaded, who did they give up for him? Probably two bags of balls, ten bats and a couple of tomato can A level prospects.

It's embarrassing and moronic for all of MLB what just happened.

That stooge Sterling is working on his Stanton home run call right now.

If the Yankees don't win the division for the next five years and win two or three WS titles, then color me shocked.

But hey, at least they go back to being universally hated throughout MLB, so they've got that going for them, which always nice.

What a ****ing joke.
