I am beginning to plan the 2018 Larry Lo Memorial New York Toy Soldier Symposium. In addition to Larry, this year we will also honor the memory of Chuck Karen (formerly Evilchuck on this forum), a 911 first responder who lost his long and courageous battle with 911-related Cancer in 2016.

I see that the Westcoaster has been scheduled for the first weekend in March (March 3rd and 4th, 2018). Traditionally, the Symposium was scheduled for the following weekend in order to facilitate the attendance of manufacturers and collectors from outside the United States (like Andy and Gordon Neilson of King & Country, Rick Wang of Figarti, John Jenkins of John Jenkins Designs, Howard Woods, Clive Gande, Kevin Elliott, etc.) who planned to attend the Westcoaster as well. I can schedule the Symposium the weekend after, or the weekend before the Westcoaster, or, at another weekend convenient to the attendees.

If those who are interested in attending would state their preference it would be greatly appreciated.

The events will include:

Saturday:

Dinner and a Luncheon at my home, with an all day open house tour of my home and various collections.

Outings to the American Armor Museum and the American Airpower Museum.

Sunday:

A tour of other local collections, including that of Mark Hoffman (with an amazing kosher Deli luncheon) and possibly Rich Schuster (NY Soldiers).

A Sunday evening farewell dinner at Union Prime, a wonderful local Steakhouse/Sushi restaurant.

I will also add additional events for anyone arriving before Saturday or staying after Sunday.

Please respond on this thread if you have a preference for which weekend to hold the event and an interest in coming. Manufacturers or other people from outside of the United States or far enough away to require air travel who wish to attend please PM or E-mail me and I will make special arrangements for you (such as picking you up at the airport, or arranging additional tours and events, including events for your wives if they attend (like shopping at the Miracle Mile or a Broadway play, etc.).

Once I have a consensus on the preferred weekend, I will send personal invitations to the manufacturers and let everyone know who the special guests will be.

Louis,

Got your text, Happy New Year!!! Sorry, I will get back to you as I am awaiting Logan's theater schedule and those are what I think are show weekends. I may do the same show I did last year in Saddlebrook, so that is one of the weekends. I am not doing the Westcoaster this year, too much going on unfortunately.

Back in touch,
TD

Gentlemen (and Ladies), I only have a handful of responses about the preferred dates (all but one wanting the weekend after the Westcoaster). I need to know what dates are best. Anyone interested in coming please let me know what weekend works best so we can make all the arrangements.{sm4}

Looks like we are going to do the Symposium on the weekend after the West Coaster (March 10th and 11th). Please either PM me or post on this thread if you are coming, so I can make all the arrangements!{sm4}

As I'm planning on attending the West Coaster, I probably will not be attending.

Louis,
I can't make it , that is Logan's opening weekend for the production he is in and I am the sound tech on the show, sorry I can't do it. I think I will be in Jersey Show the weekend before as I am not able to do the Westcoaster this year.

Hello Louis

Not sure if Jill and I can make it but we are going to try. If she catches a wiff of any chance to go to NYC she is down :) But we are dangerously hovering near broke right now after our trip to Germany and then taking our kid to a baseball training camp at Dodgertown in Florda this weekend.

For the rest of you, here are some pics from Symposium's gone by! Enjoy! :) (Craptacular photo quality belongs to me! )

Chris,

You and Jill can stay in our guest room if that helps.:smile2:

In preparation for the Symposium, my kids and I redid the Aerodrome Room. We made the entire floor of the room into a diorama, using a terrain matt and a bunch of King & Country, Hudson and Allen Studios and Heco Tinplate Models buildings. I am awaiting three ruined village backdrops from Ken Osen, to put behind the K&C buildings to separate the floor diorama from the Aerodrome Diorama on the platform:

Louis,
did anyone ever tell you that you are out of control!!!!!!! Seriously kidding, awesome display, I am pissed I am missing the weekend. Still waiting on confirm on the March 4th show, I hope you make it down to Saddlebrook. However, again, still waiting on confirm.

TD

The show is at the Hilton Hotel, 650 Terrace Ave in Hasbrouck Heights on March 11. However, don’t expect a large show. This show has shrunk in size over the years.

It will be a smaller show than normal due to the scheduling conflict the promoter had with the original hotel. Anyhow, I encourage everyone to check it out, there will still be some unique goodies there. I will not be in attendance due to a date conflict on my end.

Tom, I’m going to have to disagree with you. The show has become worse and worse over the years (and I’ve been going since 2005) with a drop off in vendors. It’s just a sign of the times. If AeroArt wasn’t going to be there I doubt I’d be going. It’s a dying show.

The Symposium is only 12 days away!^&cool^&cool I would appreciate it if those attending would drop me a PM, so I can get an accurate count for catering purposes . . . :wink2: Thanks!:smile2:
