Is there any interest in a full weekend New York Toy Soldier Symposium, like we used to host before Larry Lo passed away? There would be an opening dinner Friday night, lunch, dinner and tours of collections and local airpower and armor museums Saturday, and further tours and a farewell luncheon on Sunday. For those who may not recall, the sponsors (just me, since Larry passed) provide all the food and drink Friday through Sunday except for the farewell luncheon. Since the Westcoaster has been cancelled this year, I thought it might be time to bring back a full scale symposium.

If enough people are interested, and we can pick a date convenient for the attendees, I will reach out and invite manufacturers, like Andy & Gordon Neilson of King & Country (who attended the first 7 or 8 Symposia), John Jenkins (who attended one) and Ken and Erika Osen of Britains (who have attended 4), and this time, I would invite dealers like George Guerriero, Tin Tyler and Matt Murphy who could set up shop for collectors who want to take something home.

Those interested in attending, please PM or e-mail me, or respond on this thread. We need to select a weekend in either March, April or May to hold it, so please post some suggested dates on this thread if you are interested in attending. Obviously, if Andy, John Jenkins or the Osens want to attend, their scheduling needs will weigh heavier on picking a date.

Louis. That all sounds great. I am interested. If the weekend you choose works out for me I would come.

Brad (The Baron) just indicated that the MFCA show is April 12th and 13th. We used to hold the Symposium the same weekend as a local show (Schutzen Park, New Jersey, if I remember correctly). Would holding the Symposium the same weekend as the MFCA or another New York or New Jersey show appeal to people?

I'm almost certain that weekend would work for me.

Louis, if I could I would love to come but at the moment I have a bit to much on my plate. If and when you do hold this Symposium then pic's and a bit of a spiel on the day/evening would be appreciated.

Tom,

You are welcome anytime, cobber. If it happens I will be sure to post plenty of photos.

By the way, for anyone coming from a distance, the Symposium doesn’t have to end Sunday or begin Friday. I am happy to take a few days off and entertain guests.👍

Tom Dubel just informed me that there is a show in Hasbrouck Heights New Jersey on March 3rd so that weekend is also in the running.😎

If you do decide to hold the symposium on the weekend of our show, it would be a relatively easy shot across Jersey for a trip to the show. Our new location is easier to get to from the Turnpike, than Valley Forge was.

Prost!
Brad

I still think going from Pa to Long Island is a bit of a trek.

I got some feedback that the show at Hasbrook Heights on March 3rd is not worth the trip, so that might not be the best weekend for us to hold the Symposium.

There are competing shows around the country on March 16-18, April 7th, April 12, 13 and April 28, so these might not be the best weekends to hold the Symposium.

Louis,
I appreciate the invitation, as long as I don't have a show on the weekend you hold the event, I'd like to come down for the day on Saturday.

I also appreciate the opportunity to set up shop so to speak, but I'd much prefer to just hang out, have a few adult beverages, some food and just enjoy the moment and converse with collectors in a non toy soldier situation, something I rarely get the chance to do and what better place to do it, at a symposium attended by collectors from around the country and possibly the world.

Again, thanks for the invite and I'll try to work it into my Spring show season and again, thanks for the setting up shop offer, I'll respectfully decline...……..

Regards,
George Guerriero

I like the way you think George, not mixing business with pleasure. Just relax and have fun. I'm sure Louis
was well intended. BTW, Go Pats!

It will be great to talk in a non toy soldier show environment, no pressure to sell, sell, sell, just fun, fun, fun instead...…………….thanks for the well wishes, feels like time is going backwards at this point, it's only Monday?

George,

I would rather just hang out and talk about the hobby, I just threw out the idea of setting up shop as an incentive to get you to come.:salute::

Tell me about the food, THAT'S what will get me to come...………….;)………….

Here are some photographs of the formal dining room in my 176 year old home, all set up as it will be for the opening dinner. We have sat as many as 24 people in the dining room for one of my wife's holiday feasts. My wife is an amazing cook, and has agreed to prepare what amounts to a full holiday dinner for Friday night, Turkey with all the trimmings (hers is the best I've ever had, juicy and delicious), Brisket (ditto), home made Matzoh Ball Soup, and for dessert, a full layout of cakes, pies and brownies from Diane's Bakery down the street. I keep my bar stocked with at least 5 different single malt Scotches and Irish Whiskeys, as well as all the other top shelf liquors (vodka, rum, tequila, etc.), a nice selection of red and white wines, and bottles of Heineken and Amstel Light.

Saturday, for lunch, we put out two three-foot heroes, one Italian and one American, with potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, fruit and freshly baked assorted gourmet cookies, all from Deli on the Green, an excellent deli in the area. The spread stays out all day, until dinner . . . Penne Ala Vodka, Baked Ziti, Meatballs, Chicken Parm, etc. from Abeetza, a good local Italian restaurant, followed by another spread of desserts from Diane's Bakery.

Sunday, if Mark Hoffman is participating, we will have amazing Jewish Deli from Katz's Deli, arguably the best Kosher Deli in New York City, for brunch: Pastrami, Corned Beef, Turkey, Hotdogs, Knishes, pickles and all the salads. The farewell luncheon will either be at Smith & Wollenski's Wollenski Grill, or Bryant & Cooper, both amazing steakhouses (this is the one meal that the sponsors don't pay for . . . in the past, Andy Neilson picked up the tab or we divvied it up).

How does the food sound?:wink2:
