2019 West Coaster (2 Viewers)

Thanks for everyone's input. We will make this happen. Let me talk to Woody and a few others and get on the same page. I actually enjoyed the January Show. There are a few conflicts on East Coast for March but I am sure in can be worked out. Avoid the Superbowl and New England February vacations and we should be good.

It needs to rebuild and start fresh. Mike 1000 people is a stretch. I think a show with 100 tables and few 100 collectors is easily attainable. If we get more than that great. A year to plan even better. I would love something in 2019 but I can wait until 2020. I may have to go scout out some places so I can get my West Coast fix. Joe I'll meet you at the beach with your requests!

Thanks for putting the energy into reviving the show Matt! It would really be great if you could bring it back. Yes, let's meet at the beach w/ my requests! Toy soldiers and sand castles!

Getting older is not too much fun Joe, or at least it seems that way lately to me. I wish it were not so that toy soldier shops were disappearing because there's nothing like "sampling the merchandise." However, this forum is a great way to bridge the gap.

Interestingly, after almost getting crushed by Amazon, small independent bookstores are on the rebound and, where possible, I try to give them business, so maybe there's hope there.

Brad

I hear you Brad. I certainly don't move and heal like I used to! You're right, the forum is a great way to bridge the gap and I'm thankful we have it. Thank you Julie!
That's good news about small independent bookstores being on the rebound! I did not know that. I thought they all were steamrolled by the Amazon train. It would be great if they can hold their own in today's climate.

I think a March date works best. It is a great time to travel and sits in a perfect spot, a few months after Christmas and a few months before Chicago.

Irvine Marriott was 13K. Probably too big at this point. But also the room can be chopped up into less space. Santa Rosa room and at last place which is now a Marriott is 10,700. There was room leftover. I think a comparable show could squeeze. into 7500-10K. Or even 6000 if it had the option to grow in future.

Hi Matt,

I checked out the Anaheim Convention Center's website. It is huge, but has a great location right next to Disneyland. The ballrooms are out of the question at 150k to 200k sq. ft. ACC North might work. ACC North, 1st Level rooms 154 & 158 or rooms 156 & 160 can be combined with 11,200 sq. ft. in each combination. ACC North, 2nd Level has room 257 which can be combined with rooms 260ABC with 10,650 sq. ft. I know you indicated maybe something smaller, but the ACC has a minimum rental fee of $10,000 per day for exhibits. See attached floor plans. This might be too much to pay especially without knowing the details regarding display tables with linens, and possible other charges. If you would like to check them out, the contact number is 714-765-8950 ask to speak to one of the seven event planners on staff.

I also checked out the Ontario Convention Center's website. The main exhibit hall is too big at 20,000 sq. ft., but Ball Rooms A & B at 6,000 sq. ft. each (60 ft. x 98 ft. each) or Ball Room C with 8,000 sq. ft. (79 ft. x 98 ft) or some combination of two of them might work. I have a copy of the floor plans, but it is too large to attach and I can't figure out how to reduced it. The website does not have information regarding costs that I could find, but if you want to call them for more details, their number is 909-937-3000.

I checked out the Long Beach Convention Center, too. The only possibility that I could see was for the Seaside Ball Room at 6,317 Sq. Ft. (95 ft. x 68 ft.). All the other ball rooms were too large or misshapen or both.

Toy soldier Shows here don't exist , but die-cast etc have the odd sales events that are held in school halls . Is that not an option ? . Must be a lot cheaper than convention centre's or is that not an option in the US .

Hi Matt,

I have found two locations in Orange County that might work.

1) The Orange County Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa has exhibit halls for rent, most of which are too big or too small. However, the Anaheim Building with 14,000 square feet (70 x 200 ft. with 16 ft ceilings) rents for only $2,275. Rectangular "picnic" tables rent for $15 each. Their contact number is 714-708-1500.

2) The Business Expo Center in Anaheim located between Angel Stadium and Disneyland has Hall A which has 14,096 sq. ft. It is 101 x 108 ft with 16 foot ceilings. They offer a wide selection of table sizes and chairs. Free parking. They have a "BOOK NOW & SAVE UP TO 50% SPECIAL" that is worth checking out. You can call them at 714-598-1822 for details.

I checked out the Exp center already. Free parking would be great. Thansk for looking. I think March 2020 will be best. I have head out there on a scouting mission.

I am a bit confused. The Westcoaster Facebook page states that the show has been sold to Clark Vollbeck and there will be a 2020 show. Who is Clark ?^&confuse:confused:

Clark is a long time helper at the West Coaster Shows, but I have no further information one way or another on the Facebook information.

I just spoke to Woody and there was no sale. There were two inquiries but that is all. There is also few West Coast FB pages but none official. I believe we can work together and revive it. I will be pursuing a location.
