Mike these 28mm dioramas by Paul Darnell made me think of the fun you had with Ken last week and the kind of ACW scenes you have been playing with.

Thanks for showing these Randy. Paul has really been able to do alot with his figures, buildings, and scenics. I really liked the CSA submarine dio. 28mm certainly allows the collcetor a chance to do more with less room. Warrior (George) would cerainly like these photos.

That port scene is really very nice - almost makes me wish I had started collecting 28mm. I really like the structures/buildings that are available in 28mm.

Are these "bought" buildings....I had just assumed he made all of these?

They are all scratch built, Paul makes all his own buildings unless the customer has some he wants Paul to use, then Paul will paint them up and pop them into the scene..........

I am sure some/many of the buildings were scratch built Michael, but there are several companies that manufacture 28mm for the wargammers. Hudson & Allen had at one time had quite a few 28mm buildings available, such as an entire 28mm Alamo. I don't know if they still do 28mm or not. Anyway, it always amazes me in the detail that can be had in a 28mm structure.

I figured they were George...the style is really similar on all of them...the post before my question...prompted my query...this guys work is sick...he looks like he can fabricate anything he wants...

Here's another view of the 18th C port

I am with you. No offence to George ( Warrior )of 20mm fame, 28mm seems almost the perfect size for detailed sculpting and painting in a small space. Could you ever imagine a K/C or others ,offering prepainted 28mm versions of Nappys, WW2, etc..My collection might look totally different than it does today..F/L was offering a 40mm casting of their line. If they ever offered their Naps prepainted, how many would collect those figures at a reduced price point from their 54mm. ? Michael

Very interesting point...Looking at the photos and if I could find a painter that paints to the same standard, the Perry-brothers would get a big chunk of my money! It is a very interesting scale [28 mm] and there a re money companies with superb offerings out there...

And I guess FL could be very successful with a pre-painted 40 mmm range as well...but that is just my guess based on what I know from them in 54 mm.

There really is nothing better than well painted figures on great terrain.

I know if I could get prepainted 28mm or 40mm I would switch as I like dioramas and you could really make some nice ones at these scales as we have seen. The only problem I have with the figures, especially 28mm is their heads and hands plus weapons are out of proportion but I have seen some improvments by the sculpters in this area.

I would be interested in a smaller scale as well, as long as they were cheaper, well-sculpted and come pre-painted. The bigger scales are taking up too much room for dioramas and can be quite costly. Not sure, if I would go smaller than 40mm, though... Maybe, we just started a new trend! :)
