2nd Annual Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show (1 Viewer)

Hello All,
While I will not be there (Hudson & Allen business is keeping me tied to the bench), Ken will be. He and Richard Walker will be manning the W.Britain/Osprey Publishing table. It is a fun show to go to. What can be better than a favourite hobby, a national treasure and a town full of antiques just down the road (New Oxford has some truly wonderful antique stores) all in one weekend? OK, now I have typed myself into jealousy! Sigh. Hopefully Ken will remember to look for my one-armed Elizabeth (he could use a reminder, hint, hint, from any of you that are going ;)). Thanks!
All the Best,
Ericka

Just back from the show. A hot time in old GB today - about 90 degrees. It may set an all-time high for this date. The show itself was about the same as last year. The crowds seemed moderate. Heard some complaints about lack of advertising. Anyway the only thing I picked up was my first First Legion figure (Murat). Also saw the new FL staff sets. I don't think these can be mixed with KC. They are smaller and a different style. Britains had a heavy presence. Also saw the ONWT WWI tanks including the German version. Nothing else much struck me.

It was definately a scorcher- and I agree- has to be a record this time of year.

I thought this year was better than last- very well represented with Marx figures and old podfoots. I went ahead and bought that AN7V- it is a work of art.

In addition, my youngest, Andrew age 3, won one of the door prizes- a set of Britains Deetail Old West figures- the best part of the day by far was seeing him get all that stuff- he fell asleep on the ride home with a mounted Indian and mounted Cowboy in his hands.

Much better this year (not that last year was bad)- you guys might want to consider trying to make it if you can.

Well, it's Sunday- gotta buck up and get ready to deal with the chaos tomorrow. It was a great escape today, if only for a few hours.

Take care
CC

I was at the show today and it was warm. I don't think the ac was on as the hotel was hot inside....especially the lobby. I think the crowd was smaller than last year. It really thinned out after lunch. I got the Roman Archway from Mike at Stockade Miniatures. I had been after the archway for a while. I also saw George from Minuteman Toy Soldiers and got some of the new German FOB. George is a great person to deal with at shows as he usually has tables full of K&C and various buildings & scenic pieces. I also had a chance to talk with Ken Olsen about dioramas and a C47 that I am going to build in 1/32 scale. Overall a great day and escape from reality if only for a few hours. Thank you to Mike, George, and Ken.
Cheers

Andy, I am glad you got the archway, that was a nice price, I almost bought it as it was more of a whim for me, so good that someone who was really looking bought it! I got a nice RR01 (Original John Jenkins Maj. Rogers) from Mike. Great guy, I actually thought the show had a nice crowd and good items!

I agree that the show had a great crowd and great items. I think that the crowd was smaller than last year. I could be wrong though. I am still working on the pictures from Aberdeen so I will let you know when they are ready. I like going to shows because you always seem to find something good.

The show I thought was quite good I found a few things. I met George Minutemen toy soldiers, got to talk to Ken and Richard of Britains. I also thought the crowd was a bit smaller then last year. But overall it was a nice time yesterday in Gettysburg.

Just my .02 from a dealers perspective. The promoter said the gate was down slightly from last year; that said, I thought the crowd was steadier throughout the day, I had brisk morning session, a lull at lunchtime and then it picked up again in the afternoon, was busy right up until the 3:00pm closing.

I had several empty boxes at shows end, which is a good sign for me. Got to see Combat, Masceo, Amhuff1, Currahee Chris (I think it was you who was asking about the price on a retired ACW K & C set, I was swamped at the time, couldn't get the answer off to you in time I think), Jagdpanther, Tdubel, plus several of my regular customers from that area.

The show was very good for me, as was the Delaware show the previous two days. Got the chance to check out the battlefield today, I am amazed at how many trees have been cleared out, specifically around the Houck's Ridge, Devils Den, Wheatfield areas, the view was incredible from Little Round Top.

Thanks to everyone who turned out; will be back in Gettysburg in August for the Artists Preservation Group Show August 7th, 8th and 9th, any reason to go there is good enough for me.............
