3 Station Artillery Battery... (1 Viewer)

WOW! A super display! I have always had a weakness for mass artillery. The ground work and layout is very well done. I do however have one suggestion. It would be very unlikely that they would be firing the field pieces with the ammunition chest still placed on the carriage. This chest would be better placed on the ground behind the gun.

Incredably well done my Texican friend. Just brilliant! I really enjoyed your series of photos Michael of this great display. I can almost hear the "rolling thunder" now . . . . .
:) Mike

About time you did something.:DSeriously it is great. It is a labor of love. For the first time I am actually attracted to this range. I think this is what the manufacturers envision when they create a range.Well done my friend.

thank you King's Man...no worries...I looked in them...they are empty...just kidding...I had them on the ground...I had them on a tree stump...I didn't like the way they looked...so I put them back on the gun...

thank you Mark...this is a great range...very symbolic for the start of the US Army...JJ has done a splendid job on the artillery crew and guns on both sides...

That is a beautiful diorama! Thanks for the photos. I will have to put that JJD artillery on my want list.

Of all the ranges, I think this is must be John's personal favorite. Based on the figures released, I would call it the most "complete" series. Two versatile and varied firing lines to oppose each other with outstanding artillery crews and marching sets.

The Quebec series is lacking many of the needed "French" elements, but those missing elements are likely to be obtained via Ticonderoga. Obvious omissions being French Marine Officers and a regular French regiment to oppose the 28th firing line.

As far as sculpting, I think the faces on these soldiers are John's best

Ken...

John once mentioned having a bit of a soft spot for the Niagra Campaigns...as he spent some time growing up there...but I hope this series is far from finished...

this conflict had a large number of contingents and celebrities that could be made...

I would like the British side to get...
Major General Phineas Riall..."Those are Regulars, by God"...
Lt. William Horton and the 19th Light Dragoons..."The Charge of Horton's Dragoons"
Lt. Richard Armstrong RA...commanding the 2-24 pounders...

On the US side...I would like to see...
Major General Jacob Brown...
Captain Nathaniel Towson directing the artillery battery...
Brigadier General Winfield Scott...
Brigadier General Peter Porter...
Chief Red Jacket...
a contingent of 600 Iroquois...(Huron/Mohawk/Seneca/Deleware...too many to list)

this was the first and only conflict where Iroquois fought against brother Iroquois...

I never knew for sure who release USCH 11 represented...I Will have to ask John...

the National Colours in this series retired very quickly...I would love to see a regimental flag for the 9th, 22nd and 25th...as all the US uniforms were the same...another regiment flag could distinguish groups of soldiers on a diorama table as different regiments...no uniform changes necessary...just a simple flag bearer to identify a group of soldiers...

how about one single set of the 3 other regiment flag bearers in one box...9th..22nd and 25th...hehehe...do it all in one set...

JJ had talked about making some new Indians for this conflict...too many tribes to list...

I would like to see 6-8 Dragoons charging...

without saying any more...this series can go a long way...and I hope it goes a long way...

put it on your list John...

Michael, I really like this display - another of your beautifully crafted and creative presentations. Looking forward to see what you do with Ticonderoga.

Fully agree with your list of future wants/needs for the 1812 series. Would just like to add the need for some NCOs to stand behind both the American and British firing lines. It will be interesting to see what the future brings. - Ken

thank you Ken...

and yes...you are so right...especially in Riall's side...I hope he develops the British side farther...I asked about a marching set some time ago...I have supplemented my JJD with K&C...but would love more poses on Brits officers and infantry...

Michael...simply awesome. I know it is hard to go wrong when you create a diorama with JJD, but you have created the perfect setting for John's figures. All the little details finally all came together. I was looking closely at the landscaping on the embankments around the battery. I don't know what you are using as ground cover these days, but it looks just fantastic.

And by the way...I love that ADC...even though I don't collect US/1812, I think I might have to do a minor conversion on that one so I can steal him over to my range. That piece is a beauty.

Thanks so much for posting these!

My god man!Didyou hit the lottery?:D:D:D
Mark

Mark...here were a lot of Indians at this battle...a lot of tree fighting...Indian against Indian...I remember reading somewhere that after the battle...the Indians were so mournful of killing each other...that they just went home...

John had talked about doing more Indians for this series...I hope he does...he said I could use the B of M Indians...but he did mention doing more...it's on "his list"...hahaha...

Thank you Nick...this artillery crew has to be tempting to anybody that likes guns and gun crews...it's just so big with so many great poses...around the bunker I used some Woodland Scenic's green flock and the patches of heavy grass are a product I found at Hobby Lobby called "Super Moss"...sheets of moss that are easy to work with...Ken Osen told me they would fade in time if not painted with the Design Master fabric paint...I didn't paint mine...if they yellow a little bit or a lot...it's okay with me...

I guess you knew my cartoon versions would be coming...

the first one is on my desktop...

Mike,

Can you drop in a 24-pounder just for a few photos?

Thanks

Ken....I was gonna leave it as a shelf diorama...but it took up too much room for only 14 figures...I tore it apart...I'm sorry...but you of all people understand the importance of shelf space...

Ken...
when I get the US 5.5" howitzer...
next month...
I will set it up again and take some pictures...

I will be putting the Howitzer into the artillery park in my collection.
